RIDERS SIGN SHAWN LEMON
The Saskatchewan Roughriders have announced international defensive lineman Shawn Lemon has signed with the team. As per club policy, terms of the contract were not released.
Lemon (6’2 – 250) will enter his sixth year in the CFL when the 2016 regular season kicks off. Last season, the 27-year-old collected 15 defensive tackles, six quarterback sacks and three forced fumbles in nine regular season games with the Ottawa Redblacks. He also added four defensive tackles and a quarterback sack in the Grey Cup. Lemon missed the first half of the regular season as he attended training camp with the NFL’s San Francisco 49’ers where he played three preseason games.
This will be Lemon’s second tour of duty with the Riders after playing one regular season game in 2011 after joining the team midseason. He went on to spend 2012 with the Edmonton Eskimos before joining the Calgary Stampeders for the next two years. Through his first five seasons and 46 career games, Lemon has totaled 80 defensive tackles and 28 quarterback sacks.
He won his first Grey Cup in 2014 as a member of the Stampeders.
Sounds like Chick's replacement has decent stats and probably comes in at half the money that Chic was getting. I liked Chic as much as the next guy. However I can not condone a salary of $250K for a Defensive end at 33 years old. Im sorry thats just way over the budget. I think every other team in the league agreed as there were no takers on a trade deal. If John want to play in the CFL he better be prepared to accept a pay cheque closer to the $150K. If his play slides in 2016 it may… Read more »

Trivia Questions: Who was the Rider coach when Lemon first joined the Riders? Who was the GM? After Saskatchewan, which team did he next play for?
Very well said, sure its disappointing to lose good guys but we're in a business here and thats to start winning.
Sliders are overpaying this guy at 175,000 per year could have gotten better player for that kinda money and not great stats oh well sliders will finish last again so it dont matter
Lemon isn't good enough to carry Chicks joick strp let alone replace him as a player
I love how Taman does this and he's a loser for hiring "re-treads." Jones signs guys and it's a good move. I like Lemon but this is just a start we will see who else gets signed. Still some of the fans are mind numbing haha.
I thought Lemon was getting 190,000 over two years.
God thing that player salaries are made public so everyone knows the real number.
Trivia Questions: Who was the Rider coach when Lemon first joined the Riders? Who was the GM? After Saskatchewan, which team did he next play for?
I read the release so these are easy questions but I miss the reasoning. The Rider coach and GM was Ken Miller with Taman in mix. Next he played for the Eskimos with Tillman as GM and Kavis as head coach.
Nope 175,000 per year or 350,000 for the two years in case riders fans cant count
So far the only players Jones has signed are ones no one else wants !!!!!!!
Shouild be a great Rider team this year – yeah right !!!!
5 teams in 6 years
must be a great guy and player
Terms of the contract haven't been released. Speculating on the dollar amount is purely pointless and only the Riders haters/ jones and Murphy haters/ old boys club/ o'day and taman lovers/ salty eskimos fans are worried about that kind of stuff.
Shawn Lemon is legit
Lemon in a Chris Jones defense is going to be awesome….
Lemon was a steal.
All the best John
Based on what I saw of them last year in Ottawa, both he and Price are overrated and Lemon has a bad attitude. What a great direction this team is going in.
If you think Price was brought in to replace Dressler and Lemon brought in to replace Chick one for one you are an unapologetic idiot.
The Riders will sign five players because they released those two salaries. It is called depth!
I don't expect much next season, that is just how broken we are. It will take time.
Sorry Mark D, but after a three win season there is but only one direction for this team to go in and Rider fans call it the right direction.
Your friend,
Gordo
Hopefully Lemon has gotten better since he was here last time around as I thought he was aweful, albeit he was young
