CFL ADMITS BLUNDER

The CFL says its officials made an “incorrect call” against Winnipeg that had a “significant impact” in the Blue Bombers’ loss to the Calgary Stampeders on Friday night.

Referees penalized Winnipeg with an illegal procedure call with 39 seconds left in the final quarter. The result turned what would have been a 45-yard game-tying field goal attempt into a 50-yard attempt, which Blue Bombers kicker Lirim Hajrullahu missed.

Calgary won the game 25-23.

The CFL said Saturday that the league has reviewed the call and concluded it was “an incorrect call.”

“The official who made it is being disciplined in accordance with the gravity of the situation,” CFL Vice President of Officiating Glen Johnson said in a release.

Bad news for the Riders! If the Bombers had won the game, it would help put a lock on Riders getting the first draft pick overall in 2016.

We have now officially hit "crisis" mode when it comes to officiating. Winnipeg could lose a playoff spot because of this and they have a legitimate right to be pissed.

Who was the ref last night? It wasn't our boy Proulx because he was in Edmonton. Speaking of which, what incompetent ass gets to officiate Riders game? We haven't seen Bradbury for a while, I'll put my bets on him!

To all you knucklehead posters above…really? I disagree with every one who says the CFL is not going to be around. Are you the same person? Do you work for Rogers who wants the CFL dead so he can bring an NFL team to the Centre of the Universe? MLS ??? Major League Boring? I can't even watch 5 minutes of soccer because there is ZERO entertainment! SCORE 1 to Nil. Scored in the 89 minute. WOW now that's shear excitement.Maybe you should stay in your mom's basement, watch your beloved soccer and stay off Petersen's Blog. We don't need… Read more »

Suggestion: Maybe the league should impose the following to help prevent this from happening again. I suggest… well I know this is going to sound 'futuristic' so bear with me… how about an idea to use our television cameras, and then to video record as we go along (live); then, if necessary, we rewind the video recording, we look at it, and then ensure that the correct call on the field was made. Wow, even I am wondering if this is to crazy of an idea to impose. After all, what would we call it??? I guess maybe we could… Read more »

Come on everyone, the CFL refs have been impeccable in there ongoing display of fine refereeing for many years now. In fact, I am sure the Americans look to emulate our system of training referees as they so admire how the referees are the main attraction at each and every CFL game. Earlier this year the referees were calling almost 30 penalties in some games. In one example, oh yeah it was the Riders, they had 3 TD's called back due to the referees making such fine calls. The Americans viewing our game were so jealous of the fact that… Read more »

Seen enough bad calls to not be surprised but more of a concern to me is John Hufnagels team can't seem to lose. So many games they should have lost but didn't this year. Which team is going to take it to them? I'll cheer for any other team but them in the Grey Cup, hopefully they are not even in it.

Really bad officiating? Try the NFL where the league justifies bad calls. Don't believe me how about the Cowboys and Packers playoff game last year!
