ACCESS 7 THURSDAY EYE-OPENER

Corey Perry scored three goals and Frederik Andersen made 28 saves for his second career shutout in the Anaheim Ducks’ 4-0 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Kyle Palmieri also scored in the Ducks’ fourth win in five games, putting them back atop the overall NHL standings alongside Nashville. Jonathan Bernier stopped 21 shots for the Maple Leafs, who are 1-and-3 under new coach Peter Horachek.

The Montreal Canadiens had a very productive four minutes in a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Max Pacioretty scored two power-play goals, and P-K Subban added another in less than four minutes in the third period for Montreal.

The NHL has suspended Minnesota Wild defenceman Ryan Suter for two games, without pay, for elbowing Pittsburgh Penguins forward Steve Downie. Suter struck Downie last night early in the second period.

Toronto FC have — apparently — closed a blockbuster deal to bring American striker Jozy Altidore to Canada. The deal sends star striker Jermain Defoe to Sunderland in exchange for Altidore and money. Altidore is due in Toronto (on Thursday) for a medical examination with a contract signing to follow if all goes well.

DeMar DeRozan made an immediate impact in his return to the Toronto Raptors lineup. DeRozan scored 20 points in his first game back from a groin injury as the Toronto Raptors topped the Philadelphia 76ers 100-84.

Stephen Curry made seven three-pointers and finished with 32 points, and the Golden State Warriors overwhelmed the undermanned Miami Heat 104-89. Golden State has now won eight straight. With a strained left hamstring sidelining Heat star Dwyane Wade, the NBA-leading Warriors mowed down Miami the way they have most opponents recently. Golden State has won by an average of 19.8 points during its current streak.
