REALTY ONE FRIDAY EYE-OPENER

Jonathan Huberdeau had two goals and an assist, and Roberto Luongo made 32 saves in his return to Vancouver as the Florida Panthers topped the Canucks 3-1. Aleksander Barkov also scored for Florida while Daniel Sedin, had the lone goal for Vancouver. It was Luongo’s 289th career victory, tying him with Dominic Hasek for 11th on the all-time goalie wins list.

Jarome Iginla scored twice as the Colorado Avalanche beat the Ottawa Senators 5-2. Semyon Varlamov followed up his 54-save shutout against Chicago with 36 saves for the Avalanche, who have won four of five games. Iginla now has 572 career goals, moving him within one of Mike Bossy for 20th on the NHL’s career list.

Mikkel Boedker found the back of the net twice and added an assist as the Phoenix Coyotes hammered the Winnipeg Jets 4-1 in Glendale. Shane Doan also had a three-point night, picking up a goal and helping on two others as Arizona earned its fifth win in seven games. Mathieu Perreault scored for Winnipeg.

The Toronto Raptors have hit a rough patch. Kyle Lowry had 24 points but it wasn’t enough to snap the Raptors’ losing skid as Toronto fell 103-95 to the Charlotte Hornets. Gerald Henderson led Charlotte with a season-high 31 points to hand the Raptors their fourth straight loss. Charlotte’s starters outscored Toronto’s by a whopping 89-46 margin.

The New York Knicks extended their longest single-season losing streak to 14 games. James Harden had 25 points and nine assists in just three quarters to power the Houston Rockets over New York 120-96. The Rockets beat the Knicks for the 11th straight time. New York has lost 24 of its last 25 games to fall to an NBA-worst 5-34.

Canadian tennis star Milos Raonic has advanced to the semifinals at the Brisbane International. Raonic defeated Australian Sam Groth 7-6, 3-6, 7-6 at the tune-up tournament ahead of the Australian Open. The first Grand Slam of the season will have a record-high payout this year. The tournament says it has increased prize money to take into account the fall of the Australian dollar in the past several months.
