HALL OUT AS RIDER D.C.

Roughriders head coach Corey Chamblin announced Tuesday morning that Richie Hall will not be the team’s defensive coordinator in 2015. However Chamblin was quick to point out the long-time Rider assistant coach will be offered a lesser role with the team.

Chamblin said he might become the team’s D.C. himself, and revealed he even called the defensive plays in the Western Semifinal (an 18-10 loss at Edmonton).

Although their names have come up, Chamblin said Devone Claybrooks and Barron Miles will not be considered for the position however current Rider assistant Mike Sinclair may be.

As far as the vacant Offensive Coordinator position goes, Chamblin said he has a list of five candidates which includes Paul Lapolice and Jacques Chapdelaine.

Richie Hall – from head coach, to D.C., to defensive backs coach? Don't think so…

I was jumping for joy when I read the headline. The delight was tempered when I read that they are keeping him around. Does this mean the backs will still be undersized. What a let down.

The GM recruits the talent for the team, not the DC.

The only way Lapo will come is for HC money. So pay him!

Not that I'm sticking up for Richie, he needed to go. Does anyone remember the Seinfeld episode with the 'soup nazi'? Sometimes Chamblin makes me think of him.

The Rider defense was the only consistent group on the team all season. I think Richie had one of his best years as a coordinator. It will be interesting to see how the Riders think they can improve an already impressive group. Its clear that the issues on this team are the lack of offensive production and special teams miscues. Improvement in these two areas has to be the focus for this offseason.

so to those Pats fans who didn't think some people were telling the truth with the odds of Paddock trading Klimchuk & burroughs…. did you read the LP about how Paddock sees a bigger picture?

Chamblin inherited Richie and he should have made that stand three years ago. It was obvious that from time to time he had to jack Richie up and change his mindset.

Personally I think a head coach should hire a good D.C not take that position on himself. (See QB coach/O.C.2014)
This team was needing a shake up so no one is surprised by demoting Hall. Why would LaPo leave a lucrative TV job? Why would we want a retread like Chapdelaine? Get a younger aggressive minded innovative O.C. Surely there has to be such a person somewhere?

Corey Chamblin to now devote time as the DC? This sounds like a massive change in formula and strategy of coaching for the Rider team. Hmmm, not sure why the massive change though… Let's see, we won the Cup with having a distinct HC and very clear and separate roles for the DC and OC; all was going well except for the injury to our starting QB; but now, for some reason, we should completely change everything with the HC should now split time and focus as HC and DC? Seems a massive and unnecessary change in philosophy. Kel in… Read more »

So Richie was sent down the Hall, but not out the door.

Get it? Ha Ha I'm so clever.

This is a very inaccurate article. Watch the actual interview. Richie knew during the season he was out as DC. He was never let astray or hanging in the wind. Corey doesn't want to do the job himself – he said he doesn't want to be half in like he was this past year. Richie didn't call the plays, so how good was his defence?

http://www.cfl.ca/article/2015-free-agent-tracker

I just had a look at the latest listing of free agents and one thought came to mind. GM Brendon Tamon better hit the wake-up button on his alarm clock because not only does there seem to be a coaching controversy brewing in Sask, but for some other reason, Sask HAS THE MOST UNSIGNED FREE AGENTS OF ALL THE TEAMS!

Sorry for the large CAPS but the warning signals should be going off that something is not right here.

Still wishing though… GO RIDERS!

Our defence has been the hallmark of this team. 4 grey cup apprearances in 7 years from '07-'13 is more than impressive and you don't get to those dances without solid and consistent defences. Congrats on a great run as DC and sad to see you go.

One thing: 1) For Richie Hall it is simply time. No individual has given so much to this organiztion only to be disrespected in the manner to which he has been for years. Richie, thank you for the '89 Grey Cup and speaking at my High School during that era. Thank you for electing not to go to CAL in in the NCAA in '07 and staying here to finish the job. Thank you for '13, and thank you for speaking at our Men's Breakfast. That's 3 out of 4 Grey Cups this man has been an integral part of… Read more »

I find it interesting that Hall is out and Hopson is leaving at the same time. Chamblin inherited Hall and I think was untouchable while big Jim was in charge. Good move Chamblin Sinclair or Benevdies will be the next DC.
