TUESDAY EYE-OPENER

In Monday night football action, Colt McCoy directed Washington to Kai Forbath’s 40-yard field goal in overtime for a 20-17 victory that snapped the Dallas Cowboys’ six-game winning streak. McCoy, the former Texas star playing at the home of the Cowboys for the first time since his final college game in his home state, calmly drove Washington to the winning points.

SEASON-ENDING INJURY: Dallas linebacker Justin Durant sustained a season-ending injury when he tore an arm muscle in the fourth quarter.   His brother Darian of the CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders was in attendance for the game at AT&T Stadium.  The starting trio of Durant, Rolando McClain and Bruce Carter never made it through a full game together.

Dallas quarterback Tony Romo left the game in the third quarter following a sack. Romo stayed on the ground for several minutes after turning backward and ducking while linebacker Keenan Robinson closed in on the QB. He came back for a drive in the final two minutes of the fourth and played in overtime as well.

Ben Scrivens made 29 saves in the Edmonton Oilers’ 3-0 victory over the league-leading Montreal Canadiens. Benoit Pouliot, Nail Yakupov and Taylor Hall scored for the Oilers, who have won four in a row. Dustin Tokarski stopped 16-of-18 shots for the Canadiens.

Anthony Duclair’s first goal in the NHL tied it 4-4 and Mats Zuccarello put the Rangers ahead 37 seconds later as New York rallied to stun the Minnesota Wild 5-4. The Wild appeared to be in complete control when they carried a 3-0 lead into the third but goalie Darcy Kuemper was rocked for five goals in less than a period.

The San Jose Sharks fight-filled 4-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks has resulted in a pair of players missing time. Sharks forward John Scott is suspended two games for his role in a fight with Anaheim’s Tim Jackman. Scott came off the bench on a legal line change and immediately engaged Jackman in a fight. Also, Ducks defenceman Ben Lovejoy will be out six to eight weeks after breaking his finger in a fight. Lovejoy hurt his right hand punching Joe Pavelski.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver will run the first three miles of the New York City Marathon as part of a 24-person relay of basketball luminaries. Dikembe Mutombo will cross the finish line for the group, which is trying to encourage kids to exercise.

Too bad about both Durant brothers being injured. Justin was having a monster season and we all know exactly how much we miss seeing DD on the field for the green and white. On that note I was actually thinking about Darian when Romo went back into the game.I was thinking that his short term decision to jump back into the game hurt was maybe a bad idea long term.
