ARGOS, TICATS WIN ON SATURDAY

TORONTO – Ricky Ray threw two touchdown passes to Chad Owens as the Toronto Argonauts held on for a 33-32 win over the Edmonton Eskimos on Saturday afternoon.

Ray found Owens twice in the first half as Toronto (5-8) earned its second straight win to move into a first-place tie with idle Montreal (5-8) and Hamilton (5-7) in the East Division. The Tiger-Cats hosted the B.C. Lions on Saturday night.

Ray improved to 2-3 against his former team before an announced gathering of 16,276 with the Rogers Centre roof closed. The Argos were at home for the first time since a 33-17 loss to B.C. on Aug. 17.

However, Edmonton made it interesting as Mike Reilly found Nate Coehoorn on a 15-yard TD, then ran for the two-point convert to pull the Eskimos to within 33-32 with 25 seconds remaining. But Toronto’s Jamie Robinson recovered the onside kick.

Toronto will not only play its final five regular-season games against East Division competition, but also be at home for four of them.

Kendial Lawrence had two TDs for Edmonton (9-5), including a 107-yard kickoff return. The Eskimos remain tied with Saskatchewan for second in the West Division although they’ll play their remaining four games against conference rivals (two home, two away).

HAMILTON, Ont. – Hamilton kicker Justin Medlock kicked five field goals as the Hamilton Tiger-Cats defeated the B.C. Lions 19-17 at Tim Hortons Field on Saturday night.

Medlock was perfect on all five of his field-goal attempts – from 39, 15, 42, 37 and eight yards. The Ticats also scored four points on two safeties conceded late in the game.

Receiver Shawn Gore and defensive back Josh Johnson each scored a touchdown for B.C. while kicker Paul McCallum hit a 27-yard field goal on his lone attempt.

The Lions (7-7) have lost their last three games and sit fourth in the CFL West, but still hold a crossover playoff spot with a better record than the Toronto Argonauts, who are tied for second in the CFL East.

The Ticats (6-7) are on a four-game win streak and have won five of their last six, dating back to Labour Day, when they moved into their new stadium and got quarterback Zach Collaros back on the field after missing five games with concussion-like symptoms. They are now undefeated in their four games at the new stadium.

The B.C. offence hadn’t been able to get much going all game and found themselves down 12-10 late in the third before quarterback Kevin Glenn hit Ernest Jackson for a 42-yard gain to the Hamilton 17. On the very next play, he handed off to receiver Emmanuel Arceneaux who threw into the endzone, finding Gore for the TD and a 17-12 lead.

Pathetic attendance in the "Centre of the Universe" just over 16,000 people in a city of millions?? After no home games for almost 2 months? Rogers is winning. He is driving the Argos out.No home games because of CFL scheduling or other events booked into Rogers Stadium?
Its time to move the Argos to Moncton. At least they have an interest in the CFL. Let the city of losers have their precious Maple Leafs, Raptors and Blue Jays.

East Division has really picked up their game of late. Also, yes many will debate this, but Riders are in a position to host a playoff game.

Imagine if the Ti-Cats end up with Chris Williams returning from the NFL this year – Williams and Brandon Banks would be an unstoppable duo. I predict a Ti-Cat vs. Stampeder Grey Cup.

Williams + Ticats= fractured relationship. No way he goes back there!
He'd look pretty good in green and white tho!! Instant deepthreat to take the spot of injured Taj!

The Argos desperately need to move to BMO Field. Watching football in a baseball stadium is an awful experience. The sight lines are terrible. You stand up to shout and cheer, and Rogers staff tell you to sit down and shut up. Not only that, but the atmosphere is sabotaged before you even arrive. Blue Jays banners everywhere. You order a pint, you're drinking it from a Blue Jays mug. You feel unwelcome. TFC at BMO is drawing capacity crowds of 20,000 and the atmosphere is electric. In an expanded stadium, Toronto will easily draw 24,000 to BMO where there's… Read more »

FYI Steve:

Williams is required to return to Hamilton in 2014 as per the deal worked out with Austin last year. The only way he is not going back is if he sits out the year (without any income) or he is traded by the Ti-Cats. Because of the need to re-sign Dressler and Chick, there will be no cap space for Sask.

Yes, Williams will be a free agent on Feb 15, if he does not sign a new deal with the Ti-cats for 2015. He is their property for 2014.
