Spencer Mack quarterbacked the Regina Thunder to three straight touchdown drives in the final four minutes to give the Thunder a 26-25 victory over the Hilltops in Saskatoon Saturday afternoon.  The win upped the Thunder’s record to 2-1.

The Calgary Stampeders improved to a league-best 9-1 with a 41-34 victory over the Edmonton Eskimos. Calgary’s now won five straight games and 11 in a row against its provincial rival dating back to 2011. Bo Levi Mitchell threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more for the Stamps.

The Red Sox scored a run in each of the first four innings en route to defeating the Blue Jays 4-3. Colby Rasmus hit his second pinch-hit home run of the week in the top of the seventh for Toronto, but it wasn’t enough to come back from three runs down. J.A. Happ took the loss for the Blue Jays.

The Vancouver Whitecaps were shut out for a fourth straight game and settled for a nil-nil draw against DC United. Vancouver earned a point against the best team in Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference, but has now gone 411 minutes since it last scored a goal. The Whitecaps are just 1-3-6 in their last ten matches.

Earlier, Giles Barnes scored twice as the Houston Dynamo edged the Montreal Impact 3-2. Montreal has lost five of its past seven matches. And Toronto FC has just three wins in their past 15 outings after falling to the Philadelphia Union 2-nil.

There were two major upsets in the men’s semifinals at the U-S Open. The bottom line is that the final on Monday will feature 14th-seed Marin Cilich against tenth-seed Kei Nishikori of Japan. They beat Number-2 Roger Federer and Number-1 Novak Djokovic, respectively.

Tennis great Martina Navratilova proposed to her girlfriend on the big screen of Arthur Ashe Stadium between the US Open men’s semifinals. Navratilova popped the question to Julia Lemigova in the Tennis Channel suite, drawing a loud cheer from the crowd.
