The Regina Pats tasted defeat for the first time in the 2014 WHL preseason Friday evening at Brandon.  The Pats went in with a perfect 3-0 record in exhibition games but the Wheat Kings scored four unanswered goals in the third period to skate off with an 8-6 victory in the first of a weekend home-and-home preseason series.

The game was close throughout, with the scored tied 2-2 after the first period and 3-3 after 40 minutes.  The shots on goal even ended up tied 38-38 at the game’s conclusion.

The Pats got goals from six different scorers: Dane Schioler, Austin Wagner, Logan McVeigh, Rylee Zimmer, Sergey Zborovsky and Jared McAmmond.  The Wheat Kings were led by Tyler Coulter who had two goals and two assists.

Tyler Fuhr started in goal for Regina and allowed three goals on 19 shots over the first half of the game.  Dawson McAuley was on the hook for the loss allowing five goals on 19 shots including the third period Wheat Kings’ onslaught.

Regina was 0/5 on the powerplay and 3/7 killing penalties.  The East Division rivals conclude the home-and-home set Saturday evening at Regina’s Cooperators Arena in a 7:00 faceoff on 620 CKRM (Press Box Sports Bar Pregame Show at 6:35 pm).

MacAuley might be 1 extremely nice kid but he is not WHL calibre in terms of goaltending especially 20yr old goaltenders… 5 goals allowed on 14shots does not cut it in this league, same thing as the playoffs gets shelled in a short time span.

I agree with the others here, can't have 20 year old MacAuley this year. The other two guys will do just fine.

It makes sense that Pat fans would recognize in jest a score clock but cannot recognize all the pennants. Pennants are for winners.
