ALOUETTES MAKE CHANGES
MONTREAL – The shake-up in the coaching staff of the struggling Montreal Alouettes continued on Monday when Erik Campbell was replaced as receivers coach by Turk Schonert.
The team also named Jeff Garcia as quarterbacks coach and made it official that Ryan Dinwiddie is the offensive co-ordinator.
Campbell was in his second year as receivers coach. With Troy Smith struggling as the starting quarterback, the 1-5 Alouettes do not have a player in the top 20 in the CFL in receiving yards. Kenny Stafford is 22nd with 16 catches for 202 yards.
“This decision has been made in the best interest of the football team,” Alouettes head coach Tom Higgins said in a statement. “Turk has done a great job since he joined our staff and we look forward to having him work closely with our talented receiving corps.”
Higgins started with Rick Worman as offensive co-ordinator but he was fired during training camp. Quarterbacks coach Dinwiddie took over his duties without taking the job title.
The Alouettes brought in Schonert, a former NFL coach with no CFL experience, and former head coach Don Matthews as consultants two weeks ago, and added former CFL and NFL quarterback Garcia to the staff in an unspecified capacity last week.

The next decision that gets made in the best interests of the team is relieving Jim Popp of his duties.
This is all on him.
Brink to start against the Riders!

I suspect they would have also liked to either get rid of Dinwiddie or, at least to move him down and to bring in a new offensive coordinator, however for this year it is too late for all that now. After first firing their OC (Rick Worman) at the start of camp, their is no way they could get rid of another OC half way into the season; too hard on the team. My bet is that, unless a miracle happens, Dinwiddie will be gone at the end of the season. They should get rid of Higgins while they are… Read more »
Guess we'll see Garcia make his return to Taylor Field this week. A couple years ago at the Huskies breakfast he was full of praise for Rider fans and enjoyed playing here except he did talk about how brutal the turf was. Wonder if his gorgeous wife will be making the trip down.
I bet Johnson is wishing he had signed on an Western team instead of having his career even die more in Montreal…. Still don't know why he didn't pick Toronto, at least he knew he would have a real QB throwing him the ball
Unbelievable that Turk Schonert didn't know about the waggle until a week ago.
It doesn't matter who starts for the Allouettes, they still stink and they are going to get there asses handed to them…..again.
Chad signed with Montreal because he new who Troy Smith was. If he had known more than the name of the league he might have picked a different team.
BTW, he hasn't made much of a splash in this league has he?
