WEEK 6 CFL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

TORONTO (CP) – Drew Willy is the CFL’s offensive player of the week after engineering a last-minute drive to give the Winnipeg Blue Bombers their fifth win of the season.

Willy’s clutch play led the CFL West-leading Bombers (5-1-0) to a 27-26 road win over Hamilton on Thursday. He marched the Blue Bombers 94 yards down the field and found Nic Grigsby in the end zone with no time remaining on the clock to tie the game.

Lirim Hajrullahu then kicked the game-winning convert.

Willy completed 31-of-43 passes for a career-high 361 yards against Hamilton in winning his second offensive player of the week award of the season.

B.C. running back Andrew Harris won his third Canadian player of the week award this year, teammate Ronnie Yell won top defender honours and Hamilton kick and punt returner Quincy McDuffie took the special teams award.

Harris, a native of Winnipeg, recorded 143 yards from scrimmage and scored a key fourth quarter touchdown to help the Lions hand Calgary its first loss of the season on Friday.

Harris was also recently named the CFL’s top Canadian for the month of July.

Yell recorded his first career interception off Bo Levi Mitchell and returned it 34-yards for a touchdown midway through the first quarter in the 25-24 Lions win.

McDuffie returned five punts for 105 yards and also returned three kickoffs for 47 yards in Hamilton’s loss to Winnipeg.

How is it that Jackson returns a missed field goal 111 yards plus good returns off of punts/kickoffs but doesn't get a player of the week nod?

So Tristan Jackson gets nothing??? One interception, two knockdowns, a 60 some yard punt return and a 111 yard return of a missed field goal. I guess Hamilton's guy needed the ink more than a player on the most stable franchise in the league.

Just another day at the office for TJ38. Been doing it for a decade. He had the fumble there so should probably get benched for a game to rethink his life — or get cut from the team.

111 yd FG return …. meh.

These player of the week awards are a joke. They are using it as a marketing thing to pump up the tires of some of the franchises.
Would like to know who votes on these awards.
