RIDERS ADD HUGH CHARLES

The Saskatchewan Roughriders today announced the addition of international running back Hugh Charles to the teams practice roster.

Charles (5’8 – 193) joins the Riders after spending the last three seasons with the Edmonton Eskimos where he registered 1,527 rushing yards on 290 carries while seeing action in 33 regular season games.

This will be Charles’ second stint with the Green and White after originally signing with the team ahead of the 2008 season. The 28-year-old was traded to Edmonton in October of 2011.

For his career, the Tulsa, OK native has 388 attempts for 2,084 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns while adding 82 receptions for 995 yards and five touchdowns. He has appeared in 54 career regular season games.

This the same team that put Jordan Sisco back on the injured list after releasing him? What's up with that gm over there in sk, his true colors coming through, and he can't do his job. Recycling castoffs his forte.

Do not agree with this move at all. Waste of time and money. Surely they can find someone better.

He is a vet that has had success in the past…if injuries play a role he could definitely fill a spot…I think Taman knows what he is doing…

Nobody asked you, he knows the offense and he was likely signed as a bargain. He's a fantastic insurance policy

may be still has something left in the tank…. I'm sure the Riders didn't overspend for Hugh – he needed a place, thus Taman in the driver's seat,

This seems like an inexpensive move to get a veteran, proven performer if the running backs on the roster can't get the job done. It provides some depth in case of injury. I don't see a down side. Edmonton had one of the worst Offensive Lines last year and given an opportunity with a good line, we will see what Hugh Charles can do.

What the hell is Sisco doing back on the team?

I always thought Hugh Charles was an under utilized player when he was here. Hopefully his talents are put to good use. Or if there is someone better already here Hugh Charles is good security to have as backup.

There were reasons why he couldn’t crack the starting lineup when he was first with the Riders, despite being a better athlete than Wes Cates.

He does bring experience, which the Riders don’t have at the RB spot. Tosten reminds me of Joffrey Reynolds in the way he runs (power vs speed), but Reynolds didn’t fumble. Hopefully it was just a case of getting used to game level contact and we don’t need to see Charles starting for the Riders.

In the infamous words of Roy Shiver: Runnin’backs be dime a dozen.

They will, he's gone as soon as they get someone. The guys in camp either weren't evaluated properly coming in, or didn't step up.

Well, it's a risk free move. He's on the practice roster making $500 a week.

He's only 28 and he does a backflip when he gets a touchdown. What's not to like??

Nobody asked you. This is money well spent, hes familiar with the offence and likely signed at bargain price, he's a total insurance policy, this is a smart signing by Taman

Practice roster spot is fine, not much hope he gets on the active roster, except maybe as a returner… As a PR player he can provide some additional mentoring to our 2 new RB's who have zero CFL experience. I don't mind that move at all.

Practice roster is now $750/week.

$750, not $500??! Well that changes everything! I would have justified the move for $500/week but $250 more a week? Man, that's like $1,000 a month!!

Sisco was injured and you cannot release an injured player.

Riders put him on the 6 game injured list and when he comes off, he will be officially released.

The naming of the ratios to national/international has changed but the ratio of narrow minded, opinionated idiots posting here remains the same.

Needed Hugh as an insurance policy in case the others dont show up. i think he still had some life in him and better yet some experience.

What would make previous posters think Hugh Charles knows the offense??? He's been gone for three years and George Cortez has been the OC for two years. Some people drink a lot of green cool-aid.
