STANLEY CUP:  Jeff Carter had a goal and two assists, Tyler Toffoli scored the tie-breaking goal late in the second period, and the Los Angeles Kings beat the Chicago Blackhawks 4-3. LA now leads the NHL’s Western Conference final 2-1. Drew Doughty had a third-period goal and an assist, and Jonathan Quick made 24 saves for the Kings.

The New York Rangers host Montreal at 6:00 pm Sask time on Sunday in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Eastern Conference final.  New York leads the series 2-1.

MEMORIAL CUP:  The Memorial Cup trophy will be awarded Sunday afternoon in London, Ontario.  The OHL champion Guelph Storm face the WHL champion Edmonton Oil Kings for junior hockey’s biggest prize.  Faceoff is 2:00 pm Sask time on Rogers Sportsnet.

MLB:  The Boston Red Sox went from worst to first in the American League East last season before capturing the World Series. The Toronto Blue Jays are threatening to do the same thing after improving to 28-22, keeping them two games ahead of the New York Yankees.

Brett Lawrie smacked the Blue Jays’ major league-leading 69th home run in a 5-2 triumph over Oakland. Jose Reyes and Anthony Gose each scored twice to support R.A. Dickey, who allowed two runs in 8 1/3 innings for his third victory in four starts.

The Blue Jays have won 10 of their last 12 and haven’t been atop the division this late in a season since July 6, 2000.

The AL West-leading Athletics have dropped three in a row, matching their longest slump of the season.

Meanwhile, the Red Sox remain last in the AL East after blowing a 5-0 lead in their ninth straight loss. Cole Figueroa scored on pitcher Andrew Miller’s throwing error in the bottom of the 15th to complete Tampa Bay’s comeback in a 6-5 win over the Bosox. Brandon Guyer tied the game with a two-run double in the seventh after Logan Forsythe drove in a pair.

The Red Sox collected just three hits after A.J. Pierzynski’s (peer-ZIHN’-skeez) three-run blast gave them a 5-0 lead with one out in the top of the first.

NBA:  The Miami Heat shook off a shaky first half and rallied to beat the Indiana Pacers 99-87 in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference final. LeBron James scored 26 points, and Dwayne Wade added 23 as Miami took a 2-1 series lead. The Heat trailed by 15 in the first half and didn’t hold a lead until early in the third quarter.

PGA:  The Colonial remains a wide-open tournament through three rounds.

Hideki Matsuyama shot a bogey-free 64 to pull into a four-way tie for the lead at 7-under. David Toms, Chad Campbell and Chris Stroud also own a piece of the lead.

Kevin Chappell fired the day’s best round, a 63 that leaves him one shot back. Top-ranked Adam Scott and Jimmy Walker are part of the six-way tie for second. Walker is seeking his fourth win of the year.

UFC:  TJ Dillashaw pulled off one of the biggest upsets in UFC history, dominating bantamweight champion Renan Barao until the fight was stopped at 2:26 of the fifth round Saturday night at UFC 173.

Dillashaw landed a high left leg kick that sent Barao to the mat and added a few more strikes before referee Herb Dean stopped the fight.

Dillashaw, a 9-1 underdog, nearly had Barao finished in the first round with a hard overhand right that floored the champion. Dillashaw’s footwork and sharp striking kept him in control. He landed numerous strikes from multiple angles and limited the damage from the normally dangerous Barao.

In the co-main event, fourth-ranked Daniel Cormier dominated MMA great Dan Henderson, winning with a rear naked choke in the third round.

Cormier is next expected to challenge for the light heavyweight title.

On the undercard, top welterweight contender Robbie Lawler was dominant in a third round TKO over fifth-ranked Jake Ellenberger, likely putting Lawler back in position to challenge for another shot at the welterweight title.

Sixth-ranked Japanese fighter Takeya Mizugaki earned a unanimous decision over Francisco Rivera and James Krause won by TKO over Jamie Varner when Varner was unable to answer the bell for the second round due to an ankle injury.

Re: Dewdney … I was thrilled that you gave some space to this issue. We live in a highly segregated (by affordable house size laws) city where kids grow up lacking enough positive mentors. (We're in the big house areas) Once you create a ghetto in a city you have now created the environment for gangs/crime … but worse … you create separation that breeds lack of understanding and eventually contempt. While the 'suits' are cheering this great day the kid from the ghetto hears mom say she needs another $8 for groceries. We live a thousand miles apart. Thanks… Read more »

A few things: 1) With every win L.A gets in the playoffs that should be the catalyst for San Jose to drop Thorton and Marleau. Sutter has the exact same system, and was fired as those two just can't get it done. Calgary made the Cup final playing it, and L.A has won a Cup playing it. Coaching is not the issue in San Jose. 2) By June 14 the Blue Jays will be tumbling to third. They don't have the bullpen, and you can't expect starting pitching to take you 8 innings every start. You also can't win in… Read more »

@Lyle Pedersen, Pfft to not enough mentors. It starts in the home. If those people want "Mentors" I suggest their parents step up. It's not the school, government or anybody else to teach kids right from wrong than the parents. End of story. The other aspect concerning the kids is once they hit 18 play time is over, so that's where my sympathy goes out the window. Real world is tough, and I suggest they learn how to deal with it. The kids in Harbour Landing and Varsity Park are no different. Their parents have money and means, but no… Read more »

I have recently jumped on the Habs band wagon because of the play of the little guy from Saskatchewan, filling the skates for the injured Price. He reminds me of some of the great shorter NHL net minders from the 60's and 70's.

Obama how can you say the Blue Jays have no bullpen. It's the same bullpen as last year that had two all-stars. It's so annoying when people who do not know anything about baseball try and talk about it. Two weeks ago everyone was saying this team wouldn't go anywhere because of the starting pitching and now saying the bullpen is the weak spot. I'm not even going to get involved with your dumb home run argument, obviously you have not paid any attention to the last week's games. Give your head a shake and don't talk about things you… Read more »

How about we start with Oakland, who they just swept and has the best record in baseball with a record of 30-17 before the series with the Jays.

No I don't think I am. You know the Blue Jays are 7 games over .500 right, and how many teams in their division are below .500? AL East is a weak division this year. Oakland is battling injuries and when Toronto plays Detroit it is going to be like men (Detroit) vs. boys (Toronto) You can't hide in baseball, and credit is due they are making hay while the sun shines and other teams suck. Managing, pitching depth, and secondary hitting is what determines success over the course of an MLB season. The Jays will win about 83 games,… Read more »

Currently two teams are below 500 in the AL East. Oakland's biggest loss is loosing two starting pitchers but the Jays still faced 3 regular quality starters. Detroit has more injuries to starters then Oakland, so by your theory the Jays should sweep them as well. Every team battles injuries and that's a weak excuse. Jays are currently missing a starting pitcher and 2 position players. You are so out to lunch. Face it dude, you have no clue what you are talking about.
