COLLAROS IN, BURRIS OUT

HAMILTON, Ont. (CP) – Zach Collaros wasn’t a free agent for long.

Less than a day after being released by the Toronto Argonauts, a CFL source requesting anonymity says the 25-year-old quarterback has agreed to terms with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Hamilton and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers were the two leading suitors for Collaros, who posted a 5-2 record last season as a starter subbing for the injured Ricky Ray.

The six-foot-two, 216-pound Collaros completed 190-of-287 passes (66.2 per cent) for 2,316 yards with 14 TDs and six interceptions.

He also ran 59 times for 246 yards and five touchdowns and was scheduled to become a free agent Feb. 15

The signing of Collaros ends veteran Henry Burris’s time in Hamilton.

Burris guided Hamilton to a Grey Cup berth last season and is slated to become a free agent next month but the expectation is the Ticats will release him before the February deadline.

Burris is expected to garner a lot of attention from the Bombers, who used three different starters last season in posting a league-worst 3-15 record.

Collaros will join a Hamilton squad with youngsters Dan LeFevour and Jeremiah Massoli along with former NFLers Brian Brohm and Stephen McGee under contract.

It won't be long before the cat fan comes on here to spew out his/her useless tirade that means nothing. Good for Hamilton though. With Collaros likely the starter it will be tougher for him now because now the pressure is all on him which changes everything.

LeFevour was given a lot of responsibility last season…and dealt quite well with the learning curve. I wouldn't say it's Collaros' job to lose. Should be a good battle in training camp.

Last year Zach Collaros WAS the best back up within the leauge. Unless someone has a short memory, they will have forgot that when Ricky Ray was injured, Collaros stepped in and then went on to win game after game; including a very tough road trip (including Mosaic Stadium), where he continued to win. When Ray was ready to come back some people even wondered if they should not keep Collaros in, but that idea was short lived. I truly believe he was the best back-up (and I am not an Argo fan by far). The only reason he was… Read more »

Whoever made the comment about putting Jesus himself and the Ticats will still not make the playoffs… Do you often make such outrageous comments or are you just looking for attention? Really? So you think that the Ticats will somehow become worse do you? That under Kent Austin the team will just fall apart? Or that the new Ottawa team will somehow surge to the forefront and kick the Tabbies to the curb? Get a grip with your comments… And no I am not the comment police but it is not hard to recognize an utterly stupid comment. As for… Read more »

Poor Winnipeg. Settling for 2nd best in coaches, QBs, etc. Reminds me of the Riders in the 90s when no free agents wanted to come here. Well at least they have that new debt, er I mean new stadium.

Surprise, surprise, surprise. Not. Hank and Kent are not in the same pod. Not that the deer in the headlights look from the GC wasn't enough to convince anyone he's done.

Hey, Roddy, can you add a forth choice to your super bowl question? Don't care – that's my pick.

And the Riders have released Weston Dressler to allow him to sign in the NFL. Sure hope if it doesn't work out down there he comes back to the Riders. best of luck Dressler. You are and will always be a true Rider.
