1 – Zach Collaros injury creates uncertainty in Winnipeg

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are monitoring quarterback Zach Collaros, who missed practice with a rib injury ahead of Saturday’s East Semi-Final against Toronto.

Backup Dru Brown took most of the first-team repetitions after an impressive relief performance against B.C., completing all 11 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns in Winnipeg’s 34–10 victory.

Collaros’ availability will be one of the biggest factors in Saturday’s matchup.

2. CFL awards season takes centre stage

The league’s major individual awards are becoming a key talking point as the season moves into the playoffs. Outstanding Player, Outstanding Canadian, Outstanding Offensive Lineman and Outstanding Rookie are among the categories attracting attention.

Quarterback Nathan Rourke, running back Brady Oliveira and receiver Tyson Philpot have been prominent in the awards conversation. The official finalist lists and voting results remain the best sources for confirming each category’s nominees.

3. Edmonton Elks extend head coach Mark Kilam

The Edmonton Elks have extended head coach Mark Kilam through the 2029 season after a successful 13–5 campaign that put the club atop the West Division.

The extension rewards Edmonton’s turnaround and gives the organization continuity as it heads into the playoffs and begins planning for 2027.

4. Dickenson Returns To Stampeders Sidelines

Calgary Stampeders President Jay McNeil announced GM/Head Coach Dave Dickenson will continue with the dual role into the 2027 season. There was some speculation that Dickenson may be forced to give up the coaching role after the team missed the playoffs with a 9-9 record.

5. Ottawa Redblacks face significant organizational questions

After finishing the season 1–17, the Ottawa Redblacks have major decisions ahead regarding their football operations.

Head coach and general manager Ryan Dinwiddie has indicated he would be willing to relinquish the general manager role. He has identified improvements along both lines as priorities and acknowledged that the team could have done more to develop young players rather than relying so heavily on free-agent acquisitions.

Ottawa president Mike Morreale is evaluating the football operations structure, with changes expected to take shape by the end of November.

5. Saskatchewan Roughriders extend Payton Collins

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed offensive lineman Payton Collins to a contract extension, according to the league’s latest news listings.

The move provides additional continuity in the trenches as Saskatchewan prepares for its playoff matchup and looks toward the 2027 season.

6. Playoff injury watch: Several key players being monitored

Injury reports are an important storyline heading into Saturday’s semi-finals.

  • Winnipeg: Zach Collaros, running back Brady Oliveira and receiver Tim White were among the players who did not practise Tuesday.

  • Toronto: Chad Kelly was a full participant Tuesday despite a knee injury, a positive sign for the Argonauts.

  • Saskatchewan: A.J. Ouellette was a full participant, while several other Roughriders were limited.

  • B.C.: The Lions have several players on the injury list, including defensive lineman Nathan Cherry.

These reflect Tuesday’s practice designations and should not be treated as final game-status decisions.

East Semi-Final: Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Toronto Argonauts

  • Date: Saturday, October 31

The biggest question is whether Collaros will be healthy enough to start or whether Dru Brown will take the reins against the Argonauts.

West Semi-Final: Saskatchewan Roughriders at B.C. Lions
