SHEETS WORKS OUT FOR OAKLAND

Pending free agent running back Kory Sheets has confirmed on Twitter that he worked out for the NFL’s Oakland Raiders on Monday.  This follows a prior workout Sheets had with the Indianapolis Colts in December.

The reigning Grey Cup MVP initially posted a photo of the Raiders’ workout facility on social media Monday and later confirmed that he worked out for the club.  If Sheets signs with Oakland, it will be his fourth NFL team after prior stops in San Francisco, Miami and Carolina.

The Hartford, CT product will see his first contract with the Saskatchewan Roughriders expire on February 15, at which time he’s free to sign with any pro team in North America.  The 5’11”, 206 lb back set a Grey Cup rushing record in 2013 with 197 yards in Saskatchewan’s 45-23 win over Hamilton.  He was also a CFL All-Canadian.  Sheets turns 29 on March 31.

Nick Moore, Jamal Johnson, C Koch, Luca Congi, D Tsoumpas, Sheets, Dressler and Butler will all be RedBlacks! Start getting it through your heads. They have money to spend and can spend up to 20% more than what these guys are actually worth. Book it! No bonuses or to pay from last year. They need to sell tickets and will create a huge buzz with a handful of these guys.

29 year old running back with a rap sheet. Oakland seems like the right fit.

Let's get one thing straight, I take Sheets as a man of his word. Following the Grey Cup he emphatically said that Saskatchewan was the only place he would play in the CFL if NFL aspirations didn't pan out. Sorry, I am going to trust him on that.

Oh boy here we go again. You just HAD to stick that part in that he's had a brush with the law. You're probably the same person that was howling for the Riders to cut him immediately after that stuff got out that he'd been in some trouble. As it turned out, he was a class act who made dozens upon dozens of appearances in the community and across the province. I seen first hand how he'd spend time hanging out with the kids and signing autographs. Those kids will remember that for the rest of their lives and are… Read more »

Mr. Morin,

If you were a girl hanging out in bars, I bet you'd have very low self esteem issues after a few weekends…"but he said he loved me."

There was discussion about his NFL pension, and Sheets needs to do everything and anything to make that thing kick in.

This one is a business decision.

Mr.Morin

To the individual who chooses to compare me to the girl in the bar. First things first, at least have the courage to let us know who you are. Secondly, you are right and business is business. If the Riders value Sheets as much as we as fans do, they should not hesitate to match any offer Ottawa, or another club might give him. If I am that 'girl' as you say, you are likely that douchebag who thinks that making wisecracks at others actually impresses others when in reality it is most often the exact opposite. That or the… Read more »

Since when is a complete dismissal of any charge considered a rap sheet?Anon #8 is no doubt a Calgary fan and Mormon. Maybe you should worry about the 3 under aged wives you have posing as your daughters.Give it a rest already you mindless weakling. If Korey is to remain in the CFL he has no desire to play anywhere else. His admiration for the front office of the Riders as well his offensive line and the SK fan base is very well documented. After the Grey Cup Victory in a sea of green at Mosaic and then traveling the… Read more »

Redblacks do magically have unlimited funds, they have the same cap as every other team. They also picked up some sizeable contracts in the expansion draft, ie shologan. So not much chance they sign all the high profile free agents as they can't offer much more than any other team and have little wake to attract, other than local where some one like butler would be closer to home if that was important to him.

@ Mr. Morin, Obama is who made the comment and he chose not to sign his handle. Nice to see you take bait and jump, but yeah Mr. Morin narrows it down. Who cares who you are. These are internet opinions. You and Woz, and a few other guys are just really interesting to read how your worldview is formed. What could possibly be better than playing for the Riders and then working in Regina. Is it possible there is something over the horizon. It is a business, when guys say they want to be here that's great. They say… Read more »

Ottawa is a beautiful city with lots of opportunities.

Everyone affiliated with the CFL should be excited to jump in there and see where it goes.

With the ownership group assembled the guys starting out there are on the ground floor to something exciting.

The stadium development is going to be the place to be.

How is the assumption made that the potential departure of Sheets will be taken personally is beyond me. I simply said I believe that if the NFL doesn't pan out, which he is certainly free to pursue and something we all know he deserves, I believe him when he says he will be back in the green and white. Look he is free to pack up and move tomorrow, all the power to him. Will I be disappointed as a fan? Absolutely. Will I lose sleep over it and have it impact my life? No bloody way. You feel free… Read more »

"Redblacks do magically have unlimited funds, they have the same cap as every other team"

Kind of but not really. Players that reached bonuses during 2013 season go against the 2014 cap. Meaning the Riders nine division all-stars, five CFL all-stars, plus any personal statistical bonuses all eat up a portion of the upcoming seasons cap.

Ottawa starts at zero and can front load contracts to max out to $4.4M

@Mr. Morin, Just when you think you know the answers I change the questions. More to the point, you need to think of sports teams in the salary management system as no different then your favourite TV shows. New England started the trend that everything runs off of aggregates, and are assigned value. I've never been in the Riders office, but I would suspect they have a value board with all of the positions, as it relates to the Salary System. If you look at the Front Office they have a lot of finance people working in it, and that… Read more »

You use a Beverly Hills 90210 analogy and I am the one with the issue? Clearly you are brilliant. Let me give you an analogy…Karate Kid….Johnny Lawrence thinks he is a pretty big deal. He talks the big game, walks around like his s&%t don't stink and then guess what happens at the end; he get's his ass kicked. It won't be from me but somebody will eventually become sick of your wisdom. Maybe before you continue to 'strut your stuff' if you while, look around and notice you really aren't impressing anyone. You obviously have very few friends, as… Read more »

Mr. Morin, What do numbers of friends have to do with anything? I go by the concept, "If you are there for you, then you really are never alone." Johnny Lawrence for the retrospective record was a very big deal. He ran that High School, had Elizabeth Shue as his girlfriend, and a gaggle of Cobra Kai as his personal posse. Where Johnny fell into trouble was his Sensie was a moron. This is to the point, he gave bad training, and Johnny blindly followed along never once questioning, "Hey maybe I should not underestimate this LaRusso guy?" That didn't… Read more »
