Calgary, AB – The Calgary Flames announced today that General Manager Jay Feaster and Assistant General Manager John Weisbrod have been relieved of their duties effective immediately.  Flames President of Hockey Operations Brian Burke announced the moves saying he will takeover the GM role until a replacement can be found.  He said he doesn’t ultimately doesn’t want the GM’s job.

CALGARY – There are some things you can always count on at a Brian Burke news conference – a loosened tie and some excellent quotes.

The veteran hockey executive added a slightly different look to the mix Thursday and the social media world took notice.

Burke, the president of hockey operations for the Calgary Flames, met with reporters at the Scotiabank Saddledome shortly after the team announced some front-office changes.

Assembled media quickly noticed that Burke’s grey locks, normally neatly combed back with a part on one side, were much puffier than usual. The slightly dishevelled look also caught the attention of Twitter users – including some of Burke’s family members.

“Okay….so maybe I should pick Dad up for a haircut this week,” daughter Molly Burke said in a tweet.

Burke’s son, Patrick, quickly weighed in with a humorous reply.

“No I’m buying him a brush for Christmas don’t you ruin this,” he tweeted.

Molly’s tweet had been retweeted over 500 times and favourited over 250 times in just a few hours.

I don't remember who it was but last year during the lockout Feaster made an offer to some free agent from Colorado. The rules were unknown to many but Calgary would have given up several first round picks if Colorado hadn't matched it and he wouldn't have had to play a single game for the Flames. It was something to do with the fact that he'd played a game or two in Europe during the lockout.
If that deal had went down it would have been the worst deal in NHL history. I believe Feaster was toast from that moment on.

Yep. Feaster may have done a good job with this years' draft and all but that Ryan O'Reilly deal was one of the boneheaded decisions that cannot take place if a franchise wants to compete for the Stanley Cup. That and Burke is right, Calgary needs some bigger forwards to help the Sean Monahan's of the world that will be the future core of the team. Don't want to end up like the Oilers with a ton of skill but no "beef around them" as Burke called it.

Wonder what Remple will have to say on this today in the Cage. Hope he remembers to keep his remarks clean this time instead of spouting off on a certain member of the Flames management and almost getting Rod in trouble. Don't need that crap. Rod's worked too hard to have something like a guest's comments ruin the whole thing.

I'll bet a dollar that the comments that Remple makes on that person are probably based on facts.

Who did you hear say Rod almost got in trouble?

Holy crap, did Burke once shoot Remple's dog? What's his beef with the guy he sounds like a pouty 5 year old today.

Stope while your ahead Remple.

Wow ! Now maybe, or I should say for sure that Calgary will have a Stanley Cup contender like the Maple Laffs. Burke is nothing but a destroyer.

Every single thing Kelly Remple said on that show today was BANG on. To the pussy above who doesn't want the truth…. That's talk radio. If you want soft radio, listen to the other guys. You call it pouty, I call it the cold hard truth, which I realize some people don't want. Rod knows with Kelly he will get his honest opinion. Enuff said.

Lmao. If memory serves me correctly, this is the second time some ass kissing anon has cuddled up to Rod because he has a man crush on either Rod himself, or a "certain member of Flames Mgmt". How on earth could a comment by Rempel on Sportscage in Regina get poor ole Roddy in trouble with the Calgary Flames???? If it does, then he should stay FAR away from there, period.

Take your soft head out of Rod's ass, then give it a good, hard shake. Ken King IS the problem with the Flames. Live with it!

Feaster has been on thin ice since the entry draft of 2011 where he pick Jankowski in the first round –
Central Scouting had him as a 3rd round pick. At last year's draft he could have used one of his 3 first round picks to get local boy Hunter Shinkaruk but they passed and took someone from the Q. Throw in last summer's O'Reilly debacle and enter Brian Burke. Feaster was as good as gone then.

I am a diehard Toronto Maple Leafs fan so take that for what it is worth. I will say this about Brian Burke and the Calgary Flames. They can have him. I was never an Oilers fan or a Kevin Lowe guy, but when Kevin Lowe finally let loose he was bang on correct. You want to talk winning, Kevin Lowe has 6 Stanley Cups, Canada Cups etc., etc., etc. Brian Burke when you really get past the smoke there isn't a lot there. The best thing he ever did for his career was jump ship from Hartford when he… Read more »
