Will Middlebrooks tripped Allen Craig for a game-ending obstruction call on Jon Jay’s ninth-inning grounder, giving the St. Louis Cardinals a bizarre 5-4 win over the Boston Red Sox and a 2-1 World Series lead. Jay hit a grounder to Dustin Pedroia, who threw home to catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia to tag Yadier Molina at the plate. Saltamacchia threw offline past third, and Middlebrooks, with his stomach on the field, raised both legs and tripped Craig.

The Regina Pats suffered their third straight loss, falling 3-1 to the Raiders in P.A. in Saturday night WHL action. Dyson Stevenson scored the lone goal for Regina, who trailed 3-0 after two periods. The Raiders outshot the Pats 31-28 and Dawson MacAuley, a P.A. product, took the loss in the Regina goal. The Pats (7-8-0) return to action Wednesday night when they host the Moose Jaw Warriors on Rider Pride Night in the Brandt Centre at 7:00 pm on 620 CKRM.

A return home did the Calgary Flames some good. Mike Cammalleri scored twice as the Flames beat the Washington Capitals 5-2. The Flames were back home after a dismal five-game road trip where they won just once. The loss snapped Washington’s three-game streak.

James Reimer made an impression in his first game back since October 17th, making 37 saves as the Maple Leafs downed the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-1 at Air Canada Centre. Dave Bolland scored twice for Toronto while Nazem Kadri and Phil Kessel chipped in with goals as well. Kris Letang had Pittsburgh’s lone goal.

Joffrey Lupul could be back soon for the Maple Leafs, but the news wasn’t so good regarding Regina product Tyler Bozak. Coach Randy Carlyle says Bozak is expected to miss at least 7-10 days with a lower-body injury. Bozak suffered the injury Friday in the Leafs loss to Columbus. He did not play the final eight minutes of that game and missed the game against Pittsburgh on Saturday.

Sharks goalie Antti Niemi made 22 saves as San Jose beat Montreal 2-0. In Dallas, Andrew Ladd scored the shootout-winner to lead Winnipeg over the Stars 2-1. Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored to lift the Coyotes over the Oilers 5-4. Around the league, New Jersey edged Boston 4-3, the Rangers beat Detroit 3-2, Tampa Bay outlasted Buffalo 3-2, Philadelphia downed the Islanders 5-2, Minnesota beat Chicago 5-3 and St. Louis thrashed the Predators 6-1.

Jon Cornish rushed for 106 yards and the winning touchdown as the Calgary Stampeders clinched first place in the CFL’s West Division with a 29-25 win over Saskatchewan. In Guelph, Ontario, the Tiger-Cats came from behind to beat the Montreal Alouettes 27-24. Hamilton wraps up second place in the East Division with the win.
