OIL KINGS 7 PATS 2
REGINA — Before the biggest crowd of the year, the Regina Pats forgot to show up. On Tim Hortons Timbits Minor Hockey Night which drew a paid attendance of 5432 Friday in the Brandt Centre, the visiting Edmonton Oil Kings jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two periods and cruised to the eventual 7-2 victory.
The Oil Kings had a 2-0 lead after the opening 20 minutes and extended it to 4-0 in the middle frame which spelled the end of the night for starting Pats goalie Dawson MacAuley. He stopped 17 of 21 Edmonton shots. Back-up Mac Engel didn’t fare much better, allowing a goal on his first shot. It was a breakaway goal by Lane Bauer, his first WHL tally.
The Pats won the third period, outscoring the visitors 2-0 on goals by Dyson Stevenson (powerplay) and Chandler Stephenson (shorthanded). Captain Kyle Burroughs assisted on both. Regina actually didn’t allow a shot on goal for the first nine minutes of the third but it was far too little, too late.
The Oil Kings (8-6-1) outshot the Pats (7-7-0) by a margin of 38-29. Regina was 1/6 on the powerplay and 5/7 killing penalties. The season series is now tied 1-1 and overall Regina has lost back-to-back games after a six-game winning streak.
The Pats are back in action Saturday as they visit the first-place P.A. Raiders at 7 pm on 620 CKRM (Press Box Sports Bar Pregame Show at 6:35 pm).
This one stunk from buzzer to buzzer. Its becoming quite obvious that the talent pool is too thin to go anywhere with. It's painfully apparent that we need to move a couple of d-men and a couple of forwards. To play Cameron's system players have to be better skaters than what was required under Conacher's system. The six game streak masked a lot of team deficiencies, but also those of a number of players. I hope the GM is busy engineering some meaningful moves. We need to get better in both ends. This team is on the cusp of going… Read more »
We just need to make a couple of moves nothing serious, we're still rebuilding and were on the right track
I don't think getting outscored 12-4 in their last 4 periods can be construed as nothing serious. 10-3 in the last two home games. The wins were very fortuitous for the most part but now that same level of play is resulting in losses. Jr hockey teams are always in a perpetual state of rebuild. Better teams tend to reload as opposed to continually rebuilding. We were fed the rebuilding thing last year and look how that turned out. I've supported this team for over 25 years and I've heard the rebuilding comment every single year. After the Stevenson's and… Read more »
