RAIDERS 3 PATS 1

Max Kammerer was unsuccessful on a penalty shot

REGINA — The Prince Albert Raiders won a goaltending duel Wednesday night in Regina and in the process, held on to first-place in the WHL’s East Division.  The Raiders topped the Regina Pats 3-1 thanks to a 42 save effort by Nick McBride.  Regina outshot the Raiders 43-20, but came out on the wrong end of the score before 3254 fans.

The Raiders led 1-0 after 20 minutes and the game was tied 1-1 going into the third.  Regina’s lone goal came from Boston Leier while the Raider scorers were Dylan Busenius, Jayden Hart and Josh Morrissey.  Hart scored the game-winner at the 4:00 mark of the third.

Mac Engel took the loss in the Regina net making 17 saves.  Regina was 0/6 on the powerplay and 2/4 killing penalties.  Back to the drawing board for them.  PA remains atop the East Division with a three-point lead over the Pats, who saw their six-game winning streak come to an end.

The Pats host the Edmonton Oil Kings, who won 3-1 in Moose Jaw Wednesday, on Friday night at 7:00 in the Brandt Centre (620 CKRM, Access 7).

….playing a 40 minute game and shooting from the outside were the main reasons for this loss. PA is quite beatable but we have to bring it for three periods and go to the net. It was something nobody wanted to do. We have to react quicker to what other teams are doing on the PK. …. in my mind the biggest reason we lost is because we failed to stand up for a downed team mate. When Winther mowed Gay down with a cheap head shot and nobody responded. Absolutely nobody. It's telling for a player when your cheap… Read more »

The "Rats" have a very good team this year and should do very well. Raiders had a hot goalie and prevailed…Regina needs to support their team and it looked on TV like there was 500 fans…Good game but TV coverage from WHL live was horrible…unless their was live play video switched to a rotating Pats insignia or some lame advertisement…you could here the audio with things happening on the ice but had to watch a dumb "screensaver"…will not watch another game from Regina…
Too bad as it was entertaining hockey. ..

I love wiener Wednesday. Two dogs and a drink really fill you up. The wieners they use are real good quality and very affordable for all families. To the previous poster; how many did you eat..LOL?

I take it the Burger Baron promo is no longer going.

It was winable game but we took the third period off. A full 60 would have won this game.

It was nice to see the Pats actually try to create scoring chances rather than dumping the puck every time they crossed centre ice. They're going to be fun to watch in the coming years. Maybe it was a litttle rust, but Engel needs to work on his rebound control and positioning. He moves well but was always battling to get back in position. McBride, on the other hand, just played a solid game and let the pucks hit him – usually in the centre of the chest. However, I think it was the same person counting attendance that was… Read more »

Over 40 Pats shots but not a lot of difficult stops for the Raider Tender in the last 2 periods…but is nice to see them directing pucks at the net at least… Engel?… maybe a bit nervous..didn't like his "attitude" of slamming his stick on the net after the last goal and taking a needless roughing penalty late in the game when we needed to apply pressure, not kill a penalty! A couple of big wins this weekend will get them back on track.

Actually Bill, the stick swinging was necessary as he got run over by morrissey. As he lay on the ice not a single guy attended to him, the trainer or excuse of one didnt even look his way so yes his actions were quite acceptable. No one made a peep about it or on the Gay hit. Someone other than Dyson needs to step up once and awhile, looking at our twinkle toed Captain for leadership here possibly…As for the Engel penalty, I didn't like it either but if no one is going to protect him then I fully agree… Read more »

That was the second time he was run over in the game and no call from the Zebras on either one. You can bet if it had been the PA goalie getting knocked over, Byblow wouldn't have been able to blow his whistle quick enough!

If you look at the 3rd PA goal Morissey was allowed to go to the net. He skated into the crease, contacted the goalie and slid the puck in. The goal clearly shouldn't have counted and there should have been a penalty on Morrissey for interference. Byblow again with no guts except when it come to the Pats. He has been doing this for years to the Pats and i think has even been disciplined for his work. Engel was shaken up pretty good by the contact. They tried to say a Pat pushed him in but the replay clearly… Read more »
