ARGOS RELEASE BRANDON BRIDGE
Just prior to Saturday night’s CFL mandatory roster cutdown, the Toronto Argonauts released veteran Canadian QB Brandon Bridge.
Bridge was among 12 players released by the Argos. The list also included veteran kickers Tyler Crapigna and Zach Medeiros.
The 27-year old Bridge signed as a free agent with the Argos this off-season. The South Alabama product was an original 4th round draft pick by the Montreal Alouettes in 2015.
The 6’5″, 235 lb pivot spent parts of three seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders (2016, 2017, 2018) and is notable as the last Canadian QB to start a CFL game.
With the provision in the CFL’s new Collective Bargaining Agreement whereby Canadian QBs now count towards the mandatory starting 7 Canadians, you’d think Bridge’s value only rose in 2019 and beyond. However obviously Argos GM Jim Popp and Head Coach Corey Chamblin felt Bridge didn’t show enough in the preseason to warrant a spot on the roster.
