WEDNESDAY SHOW RECAP: CELEBRATING 100 EPISODES!

Wednesday was Episode #100 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:

  • It was a party right from the get-go! Rod and Dupes were joined in the bunker by Rider great Bob Poley for The Warmup. The guys lined up the guest list for the show which included 10 sports personalities. Poley got into the first of many stories in this segment, and discussed the 11-5 Riders and how no one saw this spectacular of a season coming. He also talked about the 30-year reunion of the 1989 Grey Cup Rider team this summer.
  • The next guest was TSN’s Jay Onrait of the Jay & Dan show who joined the show via video chat from Toronto. Jay congratulated the boys on 100 shows and talked about Jay & Dan’s two events in Regina in November: The live taping of the Jay & Dan Podcast followed by Experience Regina Night at a Pats game. There are still tickets available for both events! Jay also discussed why he and Dan O’Toole are so popular in Saskatchewan and explained that his family has roots in Sask, and he lived in Saskatoon for a year in the early stages of his broadcast career.
  • Bob Poley ventured into more Rider stories, what it was like to play with John Hufnagel, and then delved into his treasure chest of anecdotes from his days as a fighter with the Regina Pats in the 1970’s.
  • Next up on the guest list was beloved Rider coach Ken Miller who joined the show from North Carolina. He told a few stories and also explained Jeremy O’Day’s transition from the playing field into the front office in 2011. Kenny’s not surprised at the success J.O. has displayed.
  • 2013 Grey Cup MVP Kory Sheets joined the show from Florida to offer congrats on Episode 100, and tell a few stories. When asked about his record-setting 197-yard performance in the 2013 Grey Cup, Sheets huffed, “I was mad I didn’t get one more carry to hit 200!”
  • In Hour 2 the guest list expanded to include Rider Royalty. Rushing king George Reed joined the bunker to talk about his Hall of Fame career and was joined by fellow Plaza of Honour member Wes Cates. The guys talked about the tailback position in the CFL and offered some tricks on career longevity.
  • Former Rider RB Kenton Keith then joined the show from Austin, TX and recalled stories with George and Wes. KK said he wasn’t in Regina long before he was well aware of the legendary status of George Reed.
  • Canadian Football Hall of Famer Don Narcisse joined the show from Houston, TX to offer congrats on Show #100 and thanked Rod for his help in the massive success of the Don Narcisse All Star Football Camps.
  • Derek “Duke” Meyers joined the bunker as well to talk about the evolution of the show and where it’s going.
  • The Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre daily poll question was: Is it a Fall Supper or a Fowl Supper? (A Saskatchewan thing). Results were about 50/50.
  • As has become tradition, the guys always recognize sports figures who wore the jersey number which corresponds with the episode number. Rod said that now they’ve hit 100, the odometer rolls over to “0” so the panel debated players who’ve worn #0. The group includes Johnathan Newsome, Toby Antigha, Omar Evans, Demarcus Cousins, Gilbert Arenas, John Davidson, Neil Sheehy, Les Browne, Ike Charlton and Guy Germaine.
  • Wednesday’s show is available for viewing now on our Facebook page or you can listen to the podcast by clicking on the PODCAST tab at the top of this page.
  • Join us at 10 am MT on Thursday as the guys will preview the NHL’s Heritage Classic and Week 20 in the CFL. See you on Facebook Live and RodPedersen.com/ListenLive!
