TUESDAY SHOW RECAP: BABCOCK AND PETERS TALK PLUS GREY CUP RECAP

Tuesday was Episode 123 of The Rod Pedersen Show. Here are the highlights!

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstores and while they brushed on a few Grey Cup-related topics, they went deep into the issues of the day: Mitch Marner’s revelations on Mike Babcock, and the Calgary Flames investigation of head coach Bill Peters for alleged racial slurs. Rod stated that Mike Babcock is not the monster he’s being made out to be and he’s done many great things for his home province of Saskatchewan. He also said the tactics Marner accused Babcock of are not uncommon in sports. He also pointed out that Babcock apologized to Marner and admitted it wasn’t a good strategy to use. Rod also said that people who perhaps have a narrow-minded point of view should be afforded the opportunity to change, rather than being fired outright and vilified in the court of public opinion.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: In light of the Marner allegations, will Mike Babcock coach again the NHL? Over 60% of respondents said yes.
  • RP Show Grey Cup correspondent Mike Abou-Mechrek joined the bunker to recap all of the 107th Grey Cup including the festival, and Winnipeg’s 33-12 win over Hamilton in the big game. Abou feels the Bombers are ripe to “blow things up” given the age of Andrew Harris and the 3-headed QB monster they have with Nichols, Collaros and Streveler.
  • Argonauts LB Micah Awe joined the show from Galveston, TX to talk ball and philosophized that linebackers should be the highest-paid players in the game because of their versatility. Rod and Abou scoffed at that notion. Abou feels offensive linemen should be the highest-paid while Rod said there’s a reason QBs are the highest-paid players in the sport. Rod countered that the Bombers wouldn’t have won the Grey Cup had they not acquired Collaros at the deadline. Awe – a former Buccaneer and Jet – explained why young American CFL players try so hard to get to the NFL, rather than spend their careers in Canada.
  • TSN Winnipeg Radio’s Andrew “Huster” Paterson joined the show in advance of the Bombers Grey Cup parade. He’s still dizzy from Grey Cup celebrations and said it’s still sinking in that the 1990-curse is over. As far as blowing things up with the Bombers goes, he’s not prepared to say that’s the best course of action for the club.
  • In honour of show #123 the guys recognized sports figures who’ve worn #23 in their career and the group included Ron Lancaster, Michael Jordan, Lebron James, Sam Steel, Kevin Kaminski, Dave Andreychuk, Bob Nystrom, David Beckham and Stu Grimson
  • Tuesday’s show is available or viewing now on our Facebook page or you can listen to the podcast by clicking on the PODCAST tab at the top of this page.

The Bombers, like every team, will be much different next year but I agree that QB & Harris will be 2 of the bigger questions. Jefferson, if he doesn’t end up in the NFL, will be targeted by BC as Hervey needs a pass rusher badly & is likely to pay the most. I don’t see Collaros in Wpg if the Argos show interest. Or Ottawa. He wants to stay East IMO. What about the Riders? We have an old club. Do we try 2013 over again & keep all the old veterans? There’s over a dozen 30+ guys. Hughes… Read more »
