WEDNESDAY SHOW RECAP: GREAT NEWS AND A FOOTBALL BUFFET!

Plenty of football greats graced us with their presence on Episode #213 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstore covering these Magnificent Seven show topics: 1) U.S. Disease Specialist Dr. Anthony Fauci declares pro sports can continue, but only in a safe environment in empty stadiums, 2) Will the NHL be ready to go?, 3) What does this mean to the CFL?, 4) Should the NFL Draft be moved back to accommodate for proper evaluations (it’s likely too late now), 5) Will the Blue Jays have a chance to contend in a condensed schedule?, 6) How will U-Sports be affected?, and 7) It’s #NationalTakeoutDay and the RP Show launched a contest asking viewers to tag the local restaurant they’ll support on Wednesday. A random winner will claim a $50 gift card to The Tap.
  • The guys had plenty of thoughts on the CFL. Although it’s a gate-driven league, Fauci’s declaration has to be viewed as good news for all of pro football. Dupes figures it’s time to find ways why it will work, rather than finding ways why it won’t.
  • Former CFL receiver Kamau Peterson (Stampeders, Eskimos, Blue Bombers, Ticats & Lions) joined the show from his home in Toronto for a wide-ranging chat. The Grey Cup champion and 2008 Most Outstanding Canadian discussed why he moved around so much in his career (always climbing to a better opportunity), explained his non-import status as a Detroit product, and recounted the craziest games he played in including the 2007 Blackout game at Mosaic Stadium.
  • Philadelphia Eagles WR Marken Michel joined the show from Fort Lauderdale, FL. He discussed life as an NFL player amid so much uncertainty, what he learned in his 3 years with the Calgary Stampeders, how he’s going about his off-season workouts, his brother Sony of the New England Patriots, and much more. He said several NFL players are trying to find fields in South Florida to workout on, but the police keep closing them all! He also talked about the pressure of signing with the Eagles right after they won the Super Bowl.
  • RP Show Director of Scouting Craig Smith was next up, and he spoke of the importance of people staying at home and being safe at this time. As a person with an immune deficiency, he expressed the importance of physical distancing. From there, Smitty discussed the top CFL Draft prospects, the differences between the NFL and CFL Drafts, and took several questions from interested viewers.
  • Roughriders defensive end Charleston Hughes joined the show from his couch for an update! He said he feels great and is in great shape thanks to his home workouts. He hopes the CFL season isn’t in jeopardy, or shortened, because he plans to become the CFL’s all-time sack leader before he’s finished playing. He also said he’s missing his community appearances around Saskatchewan because he enjoys visiting with fans and giving back.
  • Be sure to vote on our Rockstar of the Day poll for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions on Twitter. The resounding leader at press time was Charleston Hughes.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Should pro sports be deemed an essential service? Over 70% of respondents said no.

Well, Charleston, if I was a betting man I’d put money on Father Time. All the best in your quest. But needing 28 more for the record requires at least 2 more seasons averaging 14 sacks a year. At 36, without a Jefferson or Johnson to concentrate on & a shortened season to boot likely this year, I can’t see it. Despite a down year, Micah got double teamed 80% of the time – I think that stat comes from Derek Taylor. When you didn’t have Micah you had Jefferson drawing double coverage. With Henry & Evans (7 sacks in… Read more »
