WEDNESDAY SHOW RECAP: KIM COATES JOINS!
Wednesday’s Episode #228 of The Rod Pedersen Show was an all-timer as we were joined by Sons of Anarchy, Bad Blood, Bad Boys II, etc. star Kim Coates! We also featured the usual array of sports personalities. Here are the highlights:
- Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstore covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Fallout from Tuesday’s RP Show rant on Cody Fajardo’s off-field earnings (Cody Tweeted a thank you, and CFL’er Jeff Hecht chimed in), 2) Talks have begun for a return for the Raptors and Blue Jays, 3) A “What If” scenario for the CFL, 4) Toronto being viewed as a Hub City for the resumption of the NHL season, 5) ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith says Cam Newton should take the year off, and 6) Korean Baseball League scores!
- 2019 Grey Cup champion Jeff Hecht clarified that CFL players will, in all likelihood, receive Federal government support although since he’s a free agent without a contract, he’s not currently receiving emails from the CFLPA. Rod said his rant was moreso a defence of Fajardo, and that he doesn’t want to see the star Rider QB be taken advantage of.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Should American CFL players receive financial support from the Canadian government? Over 70% of respondents said yes.
- RP Show Winnipeg correspondent The Sports Doctor Dave Petrishen joined the show and explained that the CFL is the sole source of income for American players so they should be eligible for government support. Rod agreed. The Doc also said that not many Winnipeggers are talking about hockey right now, and he’d be fine if the NHL cancelled their season and playoffs.
- The Kim Coates interview was the highlight of Hour 1 and the Saskatoon product explained that he’s spending the quarantine in Canada, gardening and practicing his golf game. He also promoted Friday’s Facebook Live and Canadian radio livestream featuring Brett Kissel, The Hunter Brothers and more to benefit STARS Air Ambulance and those needing support. Kim took questions from viewers and said there are no current plans for a third season of the Netflix series Bad Blood. He also said his role as the coach in the movie Goon was a career highlight, and that he would’ve done it for free. He also pulled on a Riders retro hat and professed his love for the Green & White.
- The fun continued in Hour 2 and CFL veteran player and coach Khalil Carter joined the show from his home in Iowa. He recapped his recent high school football season, talked about the future of the CFL (he’s currently a scout for Montreal), what football will be like post-pandemic, and supported Rod’s dream of a Canadian indoor football league.
- 3DownNation Insider Justin Dunk joined the show from Southern Ontario with thoughts on the CFL Draft and said the league is investigating its own Bubble City concept with one site each in Western and Eastern Canada. He revealed a shortened season with a Grey Cup being pushed back to December. J-D also talked about the story he broke this week of the Canada West moving to a 5-game season in 2020. He said while that’s the plan, it’s subject to change since university campuses may not be re-opened in time for fall.
- You can vote now on our Twitter poll for the Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions. Not surprisingly, Kim Coates is running away with it. Tuesday’s winner was the Rod/Jeff Stamps feud regarding Cody Fajardo.

-Didn’t catch the show today, Rod, but if were talking financial support in the form of EI, American players might be eligible. But they can’t collect support from both the USA & Canada. -the idea of a bubble city in East & West would obviously mean Toronto & Vancouver at that time of year with the domes. That would also mean a Grey Cup in Toronto I would guess. You can’t predict what the weather would be like in Regina & you can’t predict that you would get a crowd if this continues to go on. But I’m all for… Read more »
He was so great as Tig on Sons of Anarchy.
I liked him as a character actor the first time I seen him in the 1991 action flick The Last Boy scout as “Chet”. He kept punching Bruce Willis when Bruce would ask for a light to his cigarette. Kim Coates, “BOOM YAH BABY!!! HA HA…2 for 2” lol.
I had no idea the guy was from Saskatoon. Sons of Anarchy though he was incredible.
Looking for Netflix entertainment? “Hap and Leonard” a show series. It’s a series from a bit back.
WARNING! Graphic and violent.
Come on.
CFL players, regardless of nationality, pay EI on every pay check. They are fully eligible to claim unemployment but not until the season was supposed to start. CFL players haven’t lost a wage yet!
