All our rowdy friends came by for the 1-year anniversary episode of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here’s the recap:

  • Dupes, Clark and the whole crew went all-out with special video messages from RP Show friends throughout the show including Cody Fajardo, Jim Hopson, Stu Grimson, Matthew Barnaby, Trent from Norway, Willie Jefferson, Jordan Eberle, Jeff Reinebold, Tori Gurley, Theoren Fleury, Curtis Hunt, Jim Lang, Justin Dunk, Peter Loubardias, Arash Madani, Matt Baker from the BC Lions and more plus several great live guests! Read on …
  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstore covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Favourite RP Show moments from the past year, 2) Khari Jones revealing he received death threats as a member of the Blue Bombers, 3) Denver Broncos coach Vic Fangio saying racism isn’t a problem in the NFL, 4) Which NHL top seed will fall in their first round playoff match-up?, 5) Friday’s SJHL Draft, and 6) Does anyone foresee an end to the pandemic anytime soon?
  • The very first-ever RP Show guest, Gary Lawless of the Vegas Golden Knights, joined the show from the Knights practice facility in Summerlin, NV. He discussed this turbulent time in the U.S. and Vegas in particular, the unveiling of the AHL’s Henderson Silver Knights, racial issues in the CFL and much more. Gary said the vast majority of the Golden Knights fanbase is hardcore Nevada residents and not tourists.
  • TSN CFL Insider Dave Naylor was next up and he talked about the immediate and long-term future of the CFL. He still can’t predict if the CFL will play games in 2020. “Nayls” discussed CFL 3.0 (the future of CFL business) and if the NFL will actually play games in 2020.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Given what we know now, do you think the CFL will play games in 2020? At press time, 52% of respondents said yes.
  • The fun continued in Hour 2 as beloved Rider coach Ken Miller joined the show from his home in the North Carolina mountains. He talked about the importance of the CFL in the global football landscape, how much he misses the game and its personalities, and much more.
  • Rider great Darian Durant closed the show with a multi-segment appearance where he answered tons of questions from fans. He’s enjoying the break from football for the time being as he helps raise his young family in Toronto but admitted he envisions a return to the game at some point. Doubles revealed that plans are in the works to sign a 1-day contract to retire as a Rider. Darian discussed how much he loved being a part of Rider Nation and paralleled the end of his time in Saskatchewan and Montreal to Michael Jordan and Tom Brady. Darian ranked his top three CFL QBs as 1) Bo Levi Mitchell, 2) Mike Reilly and 3) Cody Fajardo. It was an awesome visit!
  • You can vote now on our Twitter poll for the Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions. At press time Darian Durant was way out in front.

Hard for me to mention DD in the same sentence as Michael Jordan or Tom Brady for any reason. In Regina the big discussion a couple of years ago was whether or not Kevin Glenn deserves to be in the HOF. Yes. If he isn’t, no reason for DD to be there. He had over 20,000 less yards than KG & won a single Cup as a starter. In the 107 year history of the Grey Cup, there’s likely 70 other QB’s with at least 1 Cup as a starter. Riderville, I know, figures he should be a slam dunk… Read more »

To insult with some backhanded comments that are at best passive aggressive would indicate more about your character and self-loathing than the legacy of Darian Durant. We agree Regina is not Boston or Tampa, and by the same token we are very lucky and blessed not to be in that country or living in those toilets. We are in Regina and I can say it’s a blessing to be born in Canada, and by God’s only grace we were fortunate enough to be born in Saskatchewan. I for one have spent 46 years in Regina, and I find it home… Read more »

I think I made it clear that I appreciate what he did in Regina & even deserves a statue for what he did there. But he sat on the bench while Joseph played. If Joseph went down, Durant had thrown 1 pass in the CFL by then. So very doubtful about the win. You don’t get credit for a Grey Cup “win”, just the ring. He lost 2 as a starter so batted .333. If everybody made the CFL HOF for winning one Grey Cup it would be a joke. Hank Ilesic won 7 Grey Cups, was a 9 time… Read more »

DD lagged as a qb during his career, it was torture watching him play game in game out. CFL Grey Cup MVP Kory Sheets is the only reason the Riders won a championship in 2013 as he played lights out for the Roughriders plus the fact Hamilton and qb Henry Burris sucked big time. 2007 Grey Cup Championship courtesy of that whole team led by Mr Kent Austin.

Darian’s playoff run in 2013 was nothing short of amazing. He carried the team on his shoulders into the Grey Cup. Sheets was clearly the Cup MVP, but that doesn’t diminish DD’s performance or contribution. It is after all a team sport.

Credit where credit is due. Riders don’t get past BC in the semi-final if Durant doesn’t start running the ball in the dying minutes of Qtr 3. For the last Qtr & a bit he ran for around 100 yds & BC had no answer for him. Otherwise they were done in the semi-final. They were a solid team @ 11-7 that got hot at the right time ala the 2012 argonauts, a middling club which finished the season with 3 games averaging 40 pts/game & rolled on to the Cup. The best Rider team, ONLY Rider team to ever… Read more »

Yeah, Durant was less than mediocre. Ask any professional in that industry and they’ll all agree with Mr. Chris Jones about mediocre skillsets.

Agreed, Durant was torture to watch. Lackadaisical roll his eyes in blame at his teammates when throwing his usual dirt balls. Glad Chris Jones cut him and called him out for what he really was, mediocre. Thank you Chris Jones for the absolute truth.
