TUESDAY SHOW RECAP: MARK RECCHI JOINS!

We covered all the latest sports news on Episode #251 of The Rod Pedersen Show on Tuesday! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes got things going with The Rollout for Flooring Superstores covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Monday fallout (Canada West cancelling fall sports and the PFC’s 2020 plans), 2) Farhan Lalji’s report of CFL Hub Cities gaining steam and an update is expected this week from the CFL, 3) Should CFL 1.0 be saved or burned down and rebuilt?, 4) Should Colin Kaepernick restart his football career in the CFL?, 5) Are we thinking the NFL will play?, and 6) The face of broadcasting is changing.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Should Colin Kaepernick restart his career in the CFL? At press time, results were around 50/50.
  • Rod reported during the show that the Hamilton Tiger-Cats own Kaepernick’s CFL rights. Darren thinks Kaepernick shouldn’t come north while Rod disagreed. That was a theme throughout the show.
  • Pittsburgh Penguins assistant coach and 5-time Stanley Cup champion Mark Recchi joined the show from the golf course in Pittsburgh. He gave an update on life in the NHL at the moment, the re-opening of Penguins practice facilities (coaches still aren’t allowed to enter for weeks), previewed the Pittsburgh/Montreal first round series and wasn’t sure about the state of the WHL. He reported the Kamloops Blazers ownership group hasn’t met in awhile.
  • RP Show hockey insider Jared Dumba joined the show and predicted the Tampa Bay Lightning will win the Stanley Cup. The boys mused on all things hockey. Since Jared works in the Health & Wellness field, Rod asked how Korean Baseball can play games but North American sports cannot? Dumba stated that it illustrates the difference in the outlook of governments in the countries affected by COVID-19.
  • Roughriders beat writer Murray McCormick of the Regina Leader Post made his RP Show debut and discussed covering the CFL at the moment. He said he’s been shifted to news since there’s not much going on. Murray explained breaking the stories of the Riders paycuts and $200,000+ loss and admitted he’s concerned over the future of the CFL.
  • UofS Huskies head football coach Scott Flory joined the show to breakdown Canada West’s decision to scrap the fall schedules. Scott relayed what he’s been communicating to his players regarding eligibility and how it affects them. The Canadian Football Hall of Famer gave an update on Griffiths Stadiums renovations, looked forward to 2021 and applauded the CFL and CFLPA for working together to get onto the field.
