FRIDAY CAT COUNTRY COMMENTARY: 70,000 SIM VIEWERS
(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary at 9:50 am and 5:20 pm on Cat Country 98 FM)
IT’S OUR WEEKLY VISIT TO FANTASYLAND. PLEASE … COME INSIDE.
WE WENT OVER 70,000 VIEWERS ON OUR CFL SIM SEASON LAST NIGHT AS WE BROADCAST A COMPUTER-GENERATED GAME BETWEEN THE ROUGHRIDERS AND ARGONAUTS IN TOUCHDOWN ATLANTIC.
THE CFL’S MARQUEE SUMMER GAME WAS SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEKEND IN HALIFAX AND FANS ARE BEMOANING THE CANCELLATION OF THE GAME ON SOCIAL MEDIA, AND RIGHTFULLY SO. MANY HAD PLANNED THEIR SUMMER VACATIONS AROUND IT.
SO WE BROADCAST THE GAME ON FACEBOOK LIVE AND IT WAS THE WILDEST GAME YET IN OUR SIM SEASON. IT TURNED INTO “TURNOVER ATLANTIC”. THE RIDERS AND ARGOS COMBINED FOR A WHOPPING 16 TURNOVERS IN A 12-7 TORONTO VICTORY. THE 16 GIVEAWAYS WERE THREE OFF A CFL RECORD SET BACK IN 1956!
IT WAS A FORGETTABLE NIGHT FOR VIRTUAL CODY FAJARDO AS THE RIDER Q-B THREW FIVE INTERCEPTIONS IN THE FIRST HALF ALONE WHILE HIS COUNTERPART MATT NICHOLS OF THE ARGOS WAS PICKED OFF ONCE AND FUMBLED THREE TIMES.
PERHAPS TOO MUCH BUTTER ON THE PREGAME LOBSTER?
THE ARGOS AND EDMONTON FOOTBALL CLUB ARE NOW ATOP OUR SIM STANDINGS AT 5-AND-1 WHILE THE RIDERS COME HOME FROM THE MARITIMES AT 3-AND-2 AND GET SET TO HOST WINLESS OTTAWA ON THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL IN THIS UPCOMING WEEK 8.
IT MAY ALL SOUND SILLY TO YOU AND TO BE FRANK, I THOUGHT THE CONCEPT WAS RIDICULOUS BACK IN THE SPRING WHEN THE SJHL TRIED IT WITH THEIR PLAYOFFS BUT IT TOOK OFF LIKE WILDFIRE. I’M ONLY SO GRATEFUL THEY SAW FIT TO INCLUDE ME.
NOW, WITH THE DECISION ON THE REAL 2020 CFL SEASON NOT EXPECTED UNTIL LATE JULY AND EVEN THEN IT LOOKS GRIM, THESE COMPUTER-GENERATED GAMES ARE THE BEST WE HAVE.
AT LEAST THEY’RE A HECKUVA LOT OF FUN, AND HARMLESS.
THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY ON CAT COUNTRY 98.
