MONDAY CAT COUNTRY COMMENTARY – EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED
(Listen for the daily Rod Pedersen Commentary at 9:50 am and 5:20 pm on Cat Country 98 FM)
A GREAT SLOGAN FOR THESE STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS COULD BE – “EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED”.
SUNDAY CLOSED THE BOOK ON A WILD PLAY-IN ROUND OF THE NHL PLAYOFFS AND MANY THINGS HAPPENED THAT NO ONE SAW COMING.
THE PREDICTION POLLS WE SAW HAD THE WINNIPEG JETS AND EDMONTON OILERS GOING THE FURTHEST OF THE WESTERN CANADIAN TEAMS, BUT NOW THEY’RE OUT AND LEFT TO ENJOY WHAT’S LEFT OF SUMMER.
THE CALGARY FLAMES LOOK TO BE THE BEST OF THE CANADIAN BUNCH, AND THEY NOW LINE UP AGAINST THE DALLAS STARS WHICH THE PUNDITS SAY IS A MATCH-UP IN THE FLAMES FAVOUR.
AND OUT EAST, THE OLD SCHOOL’ERS REJOICE AS THE MONTREAL CANADIENS OUSTED THE PITTSBURGH PENGUINS BEHIND THE STELLAR PLAY OF GOALIE CAREY PRICE.
IT’S NOW MONTREAL AGAINST PHILADELPHIA IN THE NEXT ROUND – A SERIES STRAIGHT OUT OF THE 1970’S.
AND OF COURSE ON THIS MONDAY THE LEAF-HATERS REJOICE AS TORONTO’S STANLEY CUP DROUGHT HAS HIT 53 YEARS AFTER BEING BOOTED OUT BY THE COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS IN WHAT RON MACLEAN CALLED “THE BIGGEST SUMMER HOCKEY GAME” IN HISTORY.
THAT WAS SUNDAY’S DECIDING GAME 5 AND AFTER THINKING FOR A MINUTE, I GOTTA SAY RON MACLEAN’S RIGHT.
WHAT WOULD DON CHERRY HAVE TO SAY ABOUT ALL OF THIS?
THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY ON CAT COUNTRY 98.
