FRIDAY RUNDOWN: FLAME TECH FOOTBALL FRIDAY!

We unveiled some new features and had breaking news on Episode #316 of The RP Show, Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show! Read on:

  • Rod and Hall of Fame Rider broadcaster John “Frenzy” Lynch opened with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) NFL opening night – Chiefs 34 Texans 20 and opening ceremony hoopla, 2) Game 7 for the Raptors and Celtics Friday night, 3) The Stars beat Vegas 3-2 in OT to take a 2-1 lead in the NHL Western Final, 4) Chiefs fans booed players for linking arms during the anthem, 5) September 11. Where were you in 2001?, 6) CFL news … RP reported massive unrest in the league.
  • We introduced a new sponsor, Flame Tech Combustion Services, for Football Fridays. Frenzy’s appearances are sponsored by Wheaton Kia Regina.
  • We also debuted Tori’s Tips with NFL/CFL alum Tori Gurley. He joined the show from North Carolina to give his NFL Fantasy advice for Week 1, and announced he’s teamed up with Fanduel. The guys talked about Fantasy sleepers and Week 1 games. He predicts the Dallas Cowboys will lose at the L.A. Rams in prime time on Sunday night, and also figures head coach Doug Marrone is the problem with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Tori answered several questions from viewers in the segment.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Is it time to do away with national anthems prior to sporting events? At press time, about 60% of respondents said no. Both RP and Frenzy voted no.
  • Hour 2 was broadcast on Facebook Live only and we were joined by 3DownNation CFL insider Justin Dunk. He broke the news that the Edmonton CFL franchise has added former first round NFL pick QB Josh Rosen to their negotiation list. RP said that if teams are making transactions such as this, that’s good news for a 2021 CFL season. The guys talked about Canadians in the NFL and Dunk predicted WR Chase Claypool will have a big impact in Pittsburgh although he’s not slated to start in Week 1. The guys also debated the status of CFL Commissioner Randy Ambrosie.
  • Football Canada President Jim Mullin joined the show from Vancouver and said he’s in favour of the anthem being played at international competitions for the winning teams. He also scratched his head at the criticism of Ambrosie saying football is the “ultimate team sport” but the CFL isn’t acting like a team. Regarding the state of football in Canada, he feels Football Canada is the strongest entity at the moment. He feels there will be unsanctioned exhibition games between SOME Canada West teams and also reported that it’s too soon to tell if they’ll play university football in Quebec this fall.
