FLAME TECH FOOTBALL FRIDAY RUNDOWN

Fridays are reserved for the gridiron and we tackled it all on Episode #326 of The RP Show, Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show! Here’s the rundown:

  • Rod and Hall of Fame Rider broadcaster John “Frenzy” Lynch opened with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The Blue Jays are going to the playoffs!, 2) FitzMagic – Ryan Fitzpatrick leads the Dolphins to a 31-13 win over the Jaguars on Thursday Night Football, 3) CFL teams reveal 10 names from their Negotiation Lists, 4) More fallout from Edmonton’s dismissal of 49-year equipment manager Dwayne Mandrusiak, 5) It’s CFL SIM Game Day! Saskatchewan visits BC Friday at 7:00 pm MT on the RP Show Facebook channel, and 6) Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final goes Friday night between Tampa Bay and Dallas in the Edmonton bubble.
  • Video Game developer David Winter of Canuck Play joined the show to discuss Friday’s reveal of the 2020 version of Doug Flutie’s Maximum Football! Dave talked about new features to the game (enhanced AI, better graphics, options, etc.) and their relationship with Doug Flutie. Winter chuckled at least week’s game glitch that featured a 12-on-12 brawl between the Stampeders and Roughriders and said he doesn’t regret it given the popularity it generated. Dave answered questions from gamers around the globe including Mexico and the U.K. about the game’s availability.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Are MLB playoff-clinching celebrations too over-the-top? Results were around 50/50.
  • In the viewer takeover segment the topic came up about the Riders trading Zach Collaros to Toronto in 2019 and if it was a mistake? RP said the Riders would still make that trade eight days a week and that we wouldn’t have seen the emergence of Cody Fajardo otherwise. Ultimately the trade(s) worked out for all parties: Saskatchewan, Toronto and Winnipeg.
  • Hour 2 was broadcast on Facebook Live only and we were joined by reigning CFL Most Outstanding Defensive Player Willie Jefferson from Austin, TX. It was a lengthy, entertaining interview where Willie answered a ton of questions. He said his favourite coach ever is Chris Jones, and explained the moves he made in his life which have resulted in him winning another Grey Cup and the DMOP Award. Jefferson said he’s kept busy helping out relatives with schooling and raising his young family. The Blue Bombers were watching and asked Willie to show off his 2019 Grey Cup ring which was sent to him by special delivery. Regarding his popularity with fans in Edmonton, Saskatchewan and Winnipeg, Willie explained that he’s “a man of the people”. He also said that he’s a big fan of the CFL 2.0 global player initiative and said “the more global players, the better!” It was a great commercial for the project. Jefferson also said he’s been unable to get the Grey Cup to Texas but said if he did, he’d take it on a tour around Austin, Dallas, Houston and Waco.
