TUESDAY RUNDOWN: COWBOYS MELTDOWN, AND RICKY RAY!

Tuesday’s Episode #351 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show – featured a CFL living legend and a post-mortem on the Cowboys’ Monday Night meltdown! Here’s the rundown:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The Dallas Cowboys suffered their worst home loss in AT&T Stadium history, falling 38-10 to Arizona on Monday Night Football (RP said it’s a season-defining loss), 2) The Winnipeg Jets/Patrick Laine saga (RP says he’s gotta go), 3) Commissioner Randy Ambrosie threatens $25,000 fines for anyone leaking league info regarding 2021 plans, 4) Hockey Canada releases their schedule for the 2021 World Juniors in Edmonton, 5) Should Connor Bedard play for Team Canada at 15? (RP says yes, Dupes says no), and 6) World Series Game 1 goes Tuesday night with the Dodgers versus the Braves in Arlington, TX.
  • CFL icon Ricky Ray joined the show from his home in Redding, CA to discuss his career and give a life update. He said the best part of retirement is doing whatever he wants and admitted he’s hesitant to get into coaching because that’ll go away. Ray said he’s proud of his stint as a Frito Lay delivery truck driver because it’s part of his story of persistence, he credited Rick Worman for guiding him to the CFL, reflected on The Trade which sent him from Edmonton to Toronto in 2012 and discussed the attributes of the four Grey Cup champion teams he was on. Ricky also gave advice for young quarterbacks when they’re faced with a game-winning drive situation, and said longtime Eskimos equipment manager Dwayne Mandrusiak deserved the opportunity to go out on his own terms rather than being terminated by the club after 49 seasons.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which is Canada’s Game of the Week in Week 20 of the CFL Sim season – Calgary at Ottawa, Winnipeg at BC, Montreal at Edmonton or Hamilton at Saskatchewan? At press time, Ticats/Riders was leading.
  • Hour 2 was broadcast on Facebook Live only and we were joined by former WWF promoter, Brett Hart’s manager and junior hockey aficionado Kelly Remple. The Silver Fox figures the WHL would be better off not playing in 2021 rather than incur debilitating financial losses. He also disagreed with Rod that Connor Bedard should play for Team Canada at the World Juniors but said a camp invite wouldn’t hurt. Remps also sympathized with CFL Commissioner Randy Ambrosie saying not all league matters should be made public.
  • 3DownNation CFL Insider Justin Dunk joined the show with the latest in the league and said Ambrosie’s edict refers specifically to information related to the 2021 season, but not to all league matters. He said the league is trying to instill confidence across the country that there will be a 2021 season no matter what. Dunk also dropped a juicy tidbit saying that Ed Hervey’s resignation as GM of the BC Lions wasn’t actually a surprise and that Lions QB Mike Reilly deleting his own Twitter account is no coincidence. He said that he’ll have a bombshell story at 3DownNation.com in the coming days.
