MONDAY RUNDOWN: WORLD JUNIORS AND FOOTBALL TALK!

We opened a brand new week with Episode #351 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show – on Monday! Here’s the rundown:

  • Rod and Dupes kicked it off with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Week 8 NFL Notes – our teams (Cowboys & Titans lost) but there were some great games, 2) The Rider Alumni game featuring Derrick Moncrief and Sam Eguavoen saw the Dolphins beat the Rams 28-17 (RP didn’t notice either one on the field), 3) Monday Night Football spotlights the Buccaneers at the Giants, 4) Former Rider and current Argo linebacker Jeff Knox Jr. faces multiple charges in Pittsburgh including attempted double homicide, 5) Who should coach the expansion NHL Seattle Kraken?, and 6) The SJHL’s moving ahead with its regular season beginning Friday with a spectator cap at 150.
  • With the time change, the crew explained that the show will continue to air at 12:00 pm ET on Game+ TV however the network will now carry Hour 2 rather than Hour 1. Show features will be adjusted accordingly.
  • RP gave an emotional address about Jeff Knox Jr. and how he remains in Jeff’s corner until all the facts come out. He explained he’s known Jeff and his family for a long time and knows the type of person he is. Rod also said it’s unfortunate that so many people have tried Jeff already, and are calling for the Argos to release him.
  • Leader Post columnist Rob Vanstone joined the show to discuss all of these topics plus the CFL’s plan to play in 2021.
  • Hockey Canada World Junior GM and Moose Jaw Warriors GM Alan Millar joined the show for a very informative interview. He explained how the WHL’s seating plan differs from the SJHL’s and why they’re confident the WHL will be able to play at 50% capacity. Regarding no bodychecking in the OHL, Millar – the former GM of the Guelph Storm – said there’s been no discussion of that in the WHL and doesn’t expect it to happen here. Millar also went deep on Canada’s World Junior training camp roster and predicted this could be the best World Juniors since 2005 in North Dakota with the likes of Kirby Dach and Alexie Lafrenière potentially playing for Canada. He also expressed how proud he is of his former players Brayden Point and Steven Stamkos winning the Stanley Cup with Tampa Bay.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who should be the first coach of the Seattle Kraken – Gerard Gallant, Mike Babcock, Tim Hunter or Other? At press time, Gallant was leading on Twitter by a large margin.
  • In Hour 2 we were joined by 3DownNation CFL Insider Justin Dunk for a report on the CFL’s Return To Play proposal. Dunk stated that while there’s been no official proposal tabled yet, the league is indeed investigating all scenarios. However Dunk stated that the CFL is facing long odds to play and that includes the players likely having to agree to play for less money. He also said CFL teams are being asked to come up with their coaching staffs for 2021 but it won’t be any different from the framework of the 2020 cap and staff limitation on Football Operations. After the interview, CFL fans and staff members alike blew up Rod’s phone saying it doesn’t sound very optimistic.
