FRIDAY COMMENTARY – FINISH FRIDAY

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary at 9:50 am and 5:20 pm on Cat Country 98 FM)

WE’VE DISCUSSED THE CFL EACH DAY THIS WEEK AND SINCE IT’S GREY CUP WEEK, WE MIGHT AS WELL FINISH THE WEEK OUT STRONG.

THE CFL’S DONE A GOOD JOB WITH BEING IN THE NEWS THIS WEEK WITH ITS VARIOUS ANNOUNCEMENTS AND INTERVIEWS AND IN PLACE OF THE ANNUAL AWARDS WHICH WOULD’VE GONE THURSDAY NIGHT, THE LEAGUE UNVEILED ITS TEAM OF THE DECADE AS VOTED ON BY FANS, PLAYERS AND MEDIA.

I WOULD SAY … AS USUAL … THEY GOT IT RIGHT.

DESPITE MY LONG-STANDING FEUD WITH BO LEVI MITCHELL, I VOTED FOR THE CALGARY QUARTERBACK AS THE #1 Q-B OF THE DECADE. HE EDGED OUT RICKY RAY, AND SOMEWHERE HENRY BURRIS IS FURIOUS.

THE TOP RUNNING BACK WAS ANDREW HARRIS AND THE RECEIVER GROUP INCLUDES WHOM YOU’D EXPECT: S.J. GREEN, NIK LEWIS, WESTON DRESSLER, ADARIUS BOWMAN AND MANNY ARCENEAUX.

THE POINT THAT STUCK OUT TO ME THE MOST ON DEFENSE WAS THAT CHARLESTON HUGHES WAS NAMED THE TOP DEFENSIVE END, EDGING OUT WILLIE JEFFERSON.  THAT’LL DEFINITELY MAKE CHUCKIE HAPPY, AS HE FEELS HE’S THE RODNEY DANGERFIELD OF THE CFL.

ALSO, THE GREATEST GAME OF THE DECADE WAS VOTED TO BE THE CANADA DAY COMEBACK ON JULY 1, 2010 WHEN THE RIDERS CAME BACK FROM 21 POINTS DOWN TO BEAT MONTREAL IN OVERTIME AT TAYLOR FIELD. I WAS FORTUNATE TO BE THERE CALLING THE GAME, AND YOU WERE PROBABLY IN THE STANDS.

IT’S BEEN A GREAT WEEK. VERY POSITIVE. AND IT’LL END WITH OUR CFL SIM GREY CUP GAME FEATURING SASKATCHEWAN AND OTTAWA. YOU CAN WATCH IT ON THE ROD PEDERSEN SHOW FACEBOOK PAGE OR AT GREYCUPUNITE.CA WITH KICKOFF AT 5:30.

THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY ON CAT COUNTRY 98.
