FRIDAY COMMENTARY – MILLER TIME
(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary at 9:50 am and 5:20 pm on Cat Country 98 FM)
A FEW THOUGHTS ON THIS FRIDAY …
HOPE YOU’RE SAVOURING THE LAST FEW WEEKENDS OF THE FOOTBALL SEASON. YOU MIGHT WANT TO USE THE PVR TO RECORD THIS WEEKEND’S CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES FOR VIEWING IN THE MONTHS AHEAD.
I KNOW I WILL.
AND I’LL PREDICT A TAMPA BAY/KANSAS CITY SUPER BOWL. I’VE BEEN ON THE BUCS BANDWAGON ALL YEAR SO THERE’S NO REASON TO JUMP OFF NOW. THE SEASON’S ALREADY BEEN A SUCCESS FOR BRADY’S BUCCANEERS BUT THEY CAN’T STOP TO THINK ABOUT THAT YET.
NUMBER TWO – A WEEK INTO THE NHL’S REGULAR SEASON AND EVERY TEAM IN CANADA HAS AT LEAST ONE WIN. IT WOULD APPEAR TO BE WIDE OPEN BUT THE WINNIPEG JETS ARE EMERGING AS A FRONT-RUNNER AND THAT’S VERY EXCITING.
THE JETS HAVE BEEN A FUN TEAM TO WATCH FOR SEVERAL YEARS DUE TO THEIR SPEED AND OFFENSE, BUT THERE’S SOMETHING EXTRA SPECIAL ABOUT THIS YEAR’S BUNCH. AND THEY’VE BEEN WINNING WITHOUT THE INJURED PATRIK LAINE.
AND LASTLY I WAS A LITTLE DISAPPOINTED TO READ THE COMMENTS BY BLUE BOMBERS PRESIDENT WADE MILLER REGARDING A RETURN TO PLAY FOR THE CFL.
UNLESS I MISREAD THEM, MILLER TOLD THE CBC THAT PLAN-A INVOLVES PLAYING GAMES WITH FANS IN STADIUMS IN 2021. THERE DOESN’T SEEM TO BE A CONCRETE PLAN-B OR C.
MY INITIAL THOUGHTS WERE: DOES MILLER KNOW SOMETHING WE DON’T? DOES HE SUBSCRIBE TO A DIFFERENT NEWS SERVICE THAN I DO? OR IS THIS JUST ANOTHER FOOTBALL EXECUTIVE WHO STILL THINKS HE’S ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD AND IS TRYING TO STRONG-ARM THE HEALTH AUTHORITIES?
I THINK IT’S THE LATTER.
IT TOOK ME MONTHS TO CONCEDE THAT TEAMS AND LEAGUES ARE NO MATCH FOR THE TOP DOCTORS AND ELECTED OFFICIALS. IN FACT I WAS WARNED TO PIPE DOWN ON THE ANTI-COVID CONTROLS TALK.
MAYBE THEY DO THINGS DIFFERENT IN MANITOBA.
THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY ON CAT COUNTRY 98.
