MONDAY COMMENTARY – QB EXIT WEEKEND

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary at 9:50 am and 5:20 pm on Cat Country 98 FM)

PRO BOWL WEEKEND TURNED INTO QUARTERBACK-EXIT WEEKEND.

IN THE ABSENCE OF THE NFL ALL-STAR GAME DUE TO COVID, TEAMS STILL FOUND A WAY TO DOMINATE THE HEADLINES AND THAT INCLUDED THE CFL TOO.

THERE’S STILL A BUZZ TODAY OVER SATURDAY’S NEWS THAT THAT THE L-A RAMS AND DETROIT LIONS ARE SWAPPING #1 PICK QUARTERBACKS MATT STAFFORD AND JARED GOFF, AND DETROIT’S ALSO GETTING TWO FIRST ROUND PICKS AND A THIRD.

WITH A COUPLE DAYS TO ABSORB THE NEWS, I’D SUGGEST THE RAMS WON THE TRADE BECAUSE THEY’RE NOW SUPER BOWL-READY. DETROIT’S AT THE START OF A LONG REBUILD AND KNOWING THEM, THEY’LL SCREW IT UP.

AND THEN THE CFL JOINED THE PARTY ON SUNDAY WITH SOME NEWS WHICH HAD BEEN BUBBLING THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS. OTTAWA WAS HAVING A TOUGH TIME GETTING NEW QUARTERBACK NICK ARBUCKLE TO AGREE TO A NEW CONTRACT WHILE THE TORONTO ARGONAUTS WERE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH MATT NICHOLS.

THOSE STUBBORN PLAYERS! HOW DARE THEY TRY TO HOLD THE TEAMS TO THE TERMS OF A CONTRACT!

SO THE TEAMS RELEASED THE PLAYERS. AND THEN WITHIN HOURS OTTAWA SIGNED TORONTO’S GUY AND WE’RE TOLD TORONTO’S ABOUT TO DO THE SAME WITH THE REDBLACKS GUY.

CONFUSED YET?

MEANWHILE PLAYERS ACROSS THE LEAGUE WERE CUT LOOSE SUNDAY BECAUSE THEY WERE DUE BONUSES TODAY. ONE OF THE BIGGEST NAMES IS OUR OLD FRIEND RICKY COLLINS JUNIOR, WHO GOT CUT IN EDMONTON DESPITE COMING OFF THE BEST SEASON OF HIS CAREER.

THE CFL APOLOGISTS SAY ALL THESE MOVES ARE NECESSARY IN ORDER TO CUT COSTS AND SAVE THE LEAGUE FROM FINANCIAL RUIN.

BUT IF THIS WAY OF DOING BUSINESS GOES DOWN THE TUBES, I’LL BE THE FIRST ONE TO FLUSH THE TOILET FOR THEM.

THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY ON CAT COUNTRY 98.

Would not be surprised to see Collins in Regina. No secret Maas loudly told mgmt he wanted Ellingson. Why? What does Maas know? Don’t we have an elite group already? Well..about that……. Our current roster has ONE veteran with more than 2 years CFL experience – Jake Harty, 30, with 35 career receptions in 5 years who hasn’t played since 2017. Explain to me why he was re-signed. After Evans & Moore the roster had NO ONE with 150 yds receiving in 2019. Our Nationals had 153 yds receiving between Harty, McInnis, Lenius & Picton. Compare this to Collins’ old… Read more »

Very good commentary today Mr.Rod Pedersen, especially like the last and final statement – BUT IF THIS WAY OF DOING BUSINESS GOES DOWN THE TUBES, I’LL BE THE FIRST ONE TO FLUSH THE TOILET FOR THEM. I’d help flush the crap in a New York minute. It’s very bad business not conducive to long term viability while ruining any semblance of a reputation the CFL once had.
