WEDNESDAY CFL MOVES

WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed American receiver Kenny Lawler to a one-year extension.

Lawler was named the Bombers’ top rookie in 2019 after leading the club with 637 receiving yards on 41 receptions. He also scored four touchdowns.

Lawler added eight receptions for 126 yards in three playoff games as the Bombers won the Grey Cup.

B.C. cut Lawler in training camp in 2018, opening the door for Winnipeg to sign the California Golden Bears product to their practice roster.

Lawler was a seventh-round NFL draft pick of Seattle in 2016.

LINEBACKER RETURNS TO REDBLACKS

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Redblacks have re-signed American linebacker Avery Williams.

The Temple University product had 69 defensive tackles with Ottawa in 2019, his second year with the team.

In 28 games over two seasons, Williams has 112 defensive tackles, seven special-teams tackles and two sacks.

LEMON RETURNS TO EDMONTON

EDMONTON – The Edmonton Football Team has signed American defensive end Shawn Lemon to a one-year deal.

The nine-year CFL veteran previously played for Edmonton in 2012.

Lemon played for B.C. in 2019 and has been a member of seven of the CFL’s nine teams. He has registered at least eight sacks each of the past four years.

For his career, Lemon has 70 sacks and 22 forced fumbles,

RIDERS RELEASE PENDING FREE AGENT

REGINA – Saskatchewan Roughriders star defensive end Charleston Hughes is on the open market.

The Riders released Hughes on Wednesday, ahead of next week’s start to free agency.

Roughriders general manager Jeremy O’Day said the team couldn’t come to terms with Hughes after several weeks of negotiations.

Hughes was a CFL all-star the last two seasons with Saskatchewan and was the team’s 2019 nominee for most outstanding defensive player.

ARGOS ADD THREE

TORONTO – The Toronto Argonauts have signed American defensive backs Robertson Daniel and Treston Decoud, while linebacker Travis Feeney has opted back into his contract.

Daniel played eight games for Calgary in 2019, recording 21 defensive tackles, six special-teams tackles and three interceptions.

Decoud was with Dallas of the XFL in 2020. He was a fifth-round pick by Houston in the 2017 NFL draft.

Feeney was a sixth-round Pittsburgh pick in 2016.

LIONS LINEBACKER SIGNS EXTENSION

VANCOUVER – The B.C. Lions have signed Canadian linebacker Adam Konar to a contract extension.

The North Vancouver, B.C., product will return for a second season with the Lions.

Konar was a third-round pick by Edmonton in 2015 before playing four seasons with that team.

STAMPS SIGN RECEIVER

CALGARY – The Calgary Stampeders have signed American receiver Ryan Grant.

The Tulane University product has 80 games of NFL experience with Washington, Indianapolis and Oakland from 2014 to 2019. He had 123 catches for 1,333 yards and seven touchdowns during that stretch.

The Stampeders also released international running back Asnnel Robo.
