MONDAY RUNDOWN: SUPER BOWL WRAP, DAVE HODGE & MORE!
The Sweatpants Capital was the coldest place on earth Monday morning but we heated things up with Episode #416 of The RP Show – Canada’s DayTime Sports Talk Show! Here’s the rundown:
- RP and Dupes kicked it off with The Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The Bucs destroyed the Chiefs 31-9 in Super Bowl LV but the hosts were happy as Tom Brady fans, 2) The Weeknd’s halftime performance got a 6/10 from RP, 3) Our thoughts on Dan O’Toole’s rant and Jay Onrait’s monologue on TSN cuts over the weekend, 4) The Edmonton Football Team has narrowed their search to seven finalists, 5) Glen Suitor “Fires Off At Petty Team Officials Spreading Conspiracy Theories”, and 6) NHL Leftovers: Sunday’s winners were Philly, Detroit, Vegas, Chicago & Carolina.
- TSN and CBC icon Dave Hodge joined the show from Toronto and said the Super Bowl was a dud, however you have to marvel at Tom Brady whether you like him or not. Hodge dissected the game, the penalties, and said Kansas City imploded at the worst possible time. The topic drifted to the NHL and Hodge said the NHL needs to investigate why there have been no team Covid suspensions in Canada while there have been several in the USA. Rod offered that it’s due to our country’s stricter Covid restrictions. Regarding Monday night’s Canucks/Leafs game, Hodge philosophized that Toronto noticed the door is wide open to win the division, with no apparent challengers for the Leafs.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which was the biggest story in the Super Bowl – Brady’s 7th Title, The Bucs Defense, The Weeknd or Officiating? At press time, the Bucs Defense was leading.
- In Hour 2 we re-upped the Quick Six and RP opened both hours by stating his mail carrier wanted to have a deep discussion on the Super Bowl and Tom Brady’s future despite the fact it was minus-46 and Regina was the coldest place on earth!
- BC Lions linebacker Bo Lokombo joined the show from Vancouver to discuss all these topics and many more. He quipped that perhaps Rod’s mailman simply wanted to come inside to warmup? Bo said the Super Bowl game amounted to a massive letdown after two weeks of hype. He also is impressed by Brady’s longevity and chalked it up to body maintenance and Brady’s toughness. Lokombo signed with Toronto in 2020 however never played a game, but is back with his hometown team. He took several questions from viewers, broke down the off-season moves of the Argos and Lions, and said BC is building something special with several homegrown talents.
- The Viewer Takeover spanned four segments over the two hours and viewers really wanted to chime in with their thoughts on a Chris Jones return to the CFL. Results were split 50/50 over whether he should be welcomed back.
- Rod and Darren spent a lot of time on Glen Suitor’s comments and RP revealed that CFL teams and Canadians have never really worked together for the good of the game so why would they start now?

Well, Glen Suitor has his opinion & I agree on the whining. Rider Rumblings mused about teams not plauying nice. Well BC can’t afford Micah & is dropping salary left & right as is Calgary. Winnipeg & Riders basically so far haven’t done much in the FA pool. So you’d have to look at Argos & Edmonton. Edmonton has signed a ton. With a league high 49 FA’s, this isn’t news. They sign Walker for $180, but dump Collins’ $33,000 signing bonus + salary – that’s a wash. Release 6 outright including new Rider Blair Smith. Sewell out, cheaper Lemon… Read more »
