THURSDAY RUNDOWN: NHL CHATTER, CFL R.T.P. & MORE
Thursdays are becoming a big hockey day on The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show – so we hit the ice but also dabbled in the other hottest sports topics! Here’s the rundown!
- RP and Dupes kicked it off with The Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Wednesday NHL leftovers, 2) NHL.com’s Top 5 are Boston, Tampa, Vegas, Toronto & Florida, 3) The RP Show’s Bottom 5 are Detroit, Ottawa, Vancouver, Nashville & Buffalo, 4) A clash of the titans at the Scotties Thursday featuring Homan vs Einarson, 5) The latest in the CFL’s Return To Play (Rod thinks if they left it up to Bomber President Wade Miller, he’d get it done!), and 6) It is Trade Deadline Day in the WHL and CJHL.
- With the coverage of the CFL and CFLPA’s proposal submittal to government, we dissected what’s next. Is it going to be a back-and-forth with governments? Rod doesn’t think we’re any closer to a decision on whether or not the CFL will play in 2021 but at least it’s moving in the right direction.
- Former NHL goalie Eddie Lack joined the show from Phoenix where he’s now a luxury real estate agent. Eddie examined the Scotia North and Honda West Divisions, saying the Canucks and Flames had quite a few changes and are still coming together. He feels neither team is out of it. The West Division, where the Coyotes reside, appears to be wide open according to Lack. Eddie is always a popular and engaging guest, and he fielded several questions from viewers.
- Thursday marked the 44th anniversary of the release of the movie Slap Shot! The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was – Who’s your favourite Slap Shot character: The Hansons, Reg Dunlop, Dave “Killer” Carlson or Other? At press time, the Hansons were leading but there were several write-in votes for goalie Denis Lemieux, writer Dickie Dunn, and several others. The Hanson Brothers even Re-Tweeted our poll!
- In Hour 2 we re-upped the Quick Six and were joined by Jason Gregor from TSN 1260 Edmonton. Jason feels the Oilers have indeed turned the corner but doesn’t feel they’re a Stanley Cup contender despite being 2nd-place in the Scotia North Division. The Gregor interview drew tons of questions from viewers about the Oil. Regarding the CFL’s Return To Play, Gregor remains hopeful but he wonders what’s taking the Edmonton Football Team so long to find a new name? Rod surmised that they don’t have tickets to sell yet, nor merchandise really, so it’s understandable why they’re taking their time.
- Again four full segments were devoted to Viewer Takeover and the chat varied from Nunavut and Yukon being dropped from the Scotties & Brier, to a Jets/Canadiens preview, to more CFL talk.
