WEDNESDAY COMMENTARY – PAGING GEORGE SPRINGER

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary at 9:50 am and 5:20 pm on Cat Country 98 FM)

MY HEAD IS SWIMMING TODAY … SWIRLING WITH ALL KINDS OF SPORTS THOUGHTS.

LUCKY YOU! YOU GET TO HEAR THEM ALL IN 60 TO 90 SECONDS.

WHAT’S TOP OF MIND? RIGHT NOW, IT’S THE TORONTO BLUE JAYS WHO ENTERED WEDNESDAY – GET THIS – IN THE MIDDLE OF A 4-WAY TIE FOR SECOND IN THE A-L EAST AT 5-AND-6.

JUST IMAGINE IF PRIZED CENTREFIELDER GEORGE SPRINGER COULD ONTO THE FIELD. HE HASN’T PLAYED YET DUE TO A QUAD INJURY, AND HE’S THE HIGHEST-PAID BLUE JAY EVER.

NEXT IS THE CFL SEASON. THIS ONE IS A SCALDING CAULDRON OF HOT WATER.

IT IS LITERALLY A RACE AGAINST THE CLOCK. WE’LL SOON BE INFORMED THAT TRAINING CAMPS ARE POSTPONED DUE TO THE PANDEMIC AND CFL TYPES CAN ONLY SIT BACK AND WATCH THE VACCINATION PACE AND PRAY THAT ALL WILL GO TO PLAN IN TIME TO GET SOME SORT OF SEASON IN.

I FAVOUR THE APPROACH OF –> HOPE FOR THE BEST BUT PLAN FOR THE WORST.

PLANNING FOR THE WORST WOULD MEAN PLAYING NO MATTER HOW COVID UNFOLDS – IN A SHORTENED, BUBBLE SCENARIO – BUT I THINK THE SHIP HAS SAILED ON THAT.

IT’S ANOTHER HAIL MARY.

AND LASTLY, THE REGINA PATS ARE 0-2 WITHOUT ROOKIE SENSATION CONNOR BEDARD. THEY’VE LOST TO WINNIPEG AND P.A. THIS WEEK, AND ON THURSDAY THEY LINE UP AGAINST THE NUMBER-ONE SASKATOON BLADES.

THE WARRIORS HAVE BEEN DOING OKAY, AND THEY HAVE THE DAY OFF IN THE DUB HUB, JUST LIKE THE PATS.

TO BE HONEST, THE HOCKEY HAS BEEN FANTASTIC AND THE WHOLE SITUATION HAS BEEN A DREAM IN AN OTHERWISE NIGHTMARE OF A WORLD WE TRY TO FORGET ABOUT.

THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY.
