MONDAY RUNDOWN: ZAUN, SUTTER, BREAKING NEWS & MORE!

We opened a brand new week with Episode #510 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont kicked it off with The Warmup for EECOL Electric covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Vegas beats Montreal 2-1 in OT to tie up the series at 2-2, 2) How do we feel about the officiating in the series?, 3) Dominique Ducharme and Kelly McCrimmon test positive for Covid, 4) Jon Rahm wins the U.S. Open while Canada’s McKenzie Hughes falls apart on Sunday, 5) The Blue Jays finally take a series, this time at Baltimore, and 6) The NLL’s new expansion franchise in Las Vegas is owned by Wayne Gretzky, Dustin Johnson & Steve Nash!
  • News came down Monday morning that Roughriders defensive end Chad Geter is retiring to join the United States Air Force. Rod said it’s disappointing to lose a Friend Of The Show but when the USAF calls, you answer! Pundits expected some CFL vets would retire leading up to training camp – including Winnipeg kicker Justin Medlock – and this is proof of that.
  • 16-year Major Leaguer and World Series champ Gregg Zaun joined the show from Cleveland to chat Blue Jays and MLB. He’s concerned with the brain cramps of this young Toronto club and said normally it wouldn’t be a big deal, but they keep making the same mistakes over and over. He feels Jays skipper Charlie Montoyo may be a little too easy going. Regarding MLB’s crack down on pitchers using sticky substances, Zaunie thinks it’s a joke and that the game is weighted heavily towards hitters with pitchers getting nothing. The Sportsnet alum didn’t have a problem with the Houston Astros in their sign-stealing scandal either. Gregg said he has a big problem with the way the game is being coached over the past 4-5 years, passing on fundamentals.
  • The Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who should the Golden Knights start in Game 5 – Marc Andre Fleury or Robin Lehner? Results are around 50/50 but Rod and Darren voted for the Flower.
  • In the Hour 2 Second Half Kickoff for the Four Seasons Sports Palace, we chatted a lot of Stanley Cup Playoffs and the panel answered questions from the viewers. There’s a heavy notion amongst Habs fans that the NHL wants the Golden Knights to win the series and the crew debated conspiracy theories in sports.
  • RP Show NHL analyst Rich Sutter joined the show to chat hockey and couldn’t decide between Fleury or Lehner. He said it’s a tough spot for Vegas coach Peter DeBoer. He predicted a close Vegas/Montreal series and it’s turning out to be that way, along with the Lightning/Islanders affair. Regarding officiating, Rich didn’t want to give strong opinions on it saying refs have a tough job!
  • RP and Moose Faced Off on conspiracy theories in sports and Rod said there must not be any since he got so much heat for calling them out in his days in the WHL and CFL. Meanwhile Dupes thinks there is. The Face Off is presented by The Mad Greek Restaurant and UFZ Moose Jaw.
  • Monday’s show is available for viewing now on our Facebook/YouTube pages, you can catch the replay at 4:00 pm ET on Game+ TV, listen to the podcast by clicking on the CONTENT tab at the top of this page or listen anytime to our 24-hour live audio feed at RodPedersen.com/ListenLive.
  • See you at 12 pm ET/10 am MT on Tuesday on Game+ TV and YouTube/Facebook Live!

I would be curious to ask Greg Zaun what he believes his path to redemption back should be? Like seriously how long is enough? That slimy organization he worked for with all the virtue signaling and firing 400 people on “Bell Mental Health Day”, doesn’t give them the monopoly on being swell people. Greg should be back on network TV to give spot on analysis like he just did today. Baseball Fundamentals – there was an article on ESPN making issue with the utter stupidity MLB Players have when it comes to something like running bases. I have said for… Read more »

There are no conspiracy theories in sports, referee’s are inept, unqualified to be in those positions. In the NHL you have four zebras on the Ice at one time skating amongst the play up and close, their actions speak for themselves, totally Inept.

They are not “inept”. The reality is the game of hockey is just getting faster and faster and faster. – What’s lost in this is former NHL Referee before he passed away was the guy working/coaching today’s Referees. His role was to settle them down, point out corrections, and then keep them propped up – Refs need an Ego to do that job and Mick was the gold standard. A great man and he is missed. Do Refs blow calls? Yes they do. No different than teams getting wagoned and lose 8-0. Good teams have bad nights. At the end… Read more »

4 blind mice, totally Inept to be called professional at their profession. The NHL is the best hockey league in the world, refs of today now soiling the NHL reputation as their actions are front and center in the media.
Mick was the best, he is missed, RIP.

And that's the way it was.

Once upon a time,

Once upon a time a group of America men from Baltimore came to Canada and proceeded to school the Canadian Football League and its franchise membership at their very own football game some 25 years or so ago, Canada’s quirky rules and all. The Baltimore Men ruled the field of play kicking the meek Canadian’s a** while putting their stamp on the annual trophy called the Grey Cup. The team name of these Americans from Baltimore, the Baltimore Stallions, now forever locked in CFL lore. And that’s the way it was.
