MONDAY RUNDOWN: CHRIS JONES RETURNS & NFL, CFL ANALYSIS

September was made for football and we covered it all – along with some major breaking news – on Monday’s Episode #569 of The RP Show, Canada’s Daytime Sports Talkshow! Here’s the rundown:

RP and Moose Dupont kicked it off with the breaking news that Chris Jones is returning to the CFL as a defensive assistant with the Toronto Argonauts. The 4-time Grey Cup champion resigned Monday morning as head coach of the South Pittsburg Pirates, and Rod explained the situation. TSN’s Dave Naylor later intimated that Jones is replacing two Toronto coaches who weren’t vaccinated.
Following that the guys got into these Quick Six show topics: 1) NFL Week 1 recap and a Monday Night Football preview (Ravens at Raiders), 2) CFL Week 6 recap, 3) The Blue Jays are on fire, 4) Danil Medvedev wins the U.S. Open, 5) The guys had to ask the Canadian Brewhouse in Calgary to put on the Banjo Bowl, and 6) Other sports notes.
Longtime Calgary Flames broadcaster Peter Loubardias joined the show to preview Flames training camp and the upcoming season. Lou said next week he’ll be at Rogers Place broadcasting Flames & Oilers rookies. Lou also said the Flames will be shooting for 3rd in the Pacific Division, likely behind Vegas and Edmonton. Peter also said he’s still cheering for the Minnesota Vikings, but is no longer watching their games.
The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: What’s the biggest story coming out of Week 1 of the NFL season – Aaron’s Meltdown, Cardinals Crunch, Tom’s Comeback or Eagles Fly? At press time, Aaron Rodgers’ meltdown was leading at over 70%.
In the Hour 2 Second Half Kickoff for CORR Grain we discussed all kinds of topics coming out of Week 1 in the NFL plus Chris Jones’ return to Toronto.
McMaster Marauders running backs coach Amanda Ruller joined the show from Hamilton to discuss their training camp, preview this week’s game against Western, discuss attending the Argos-Ticats game Friday night with Pinball Clemons, and give her thoughts on Chris Jones returning to the CFL.
The final two segments were devoted to Viewer Takeover and we kibitzed with viewers over all of these topics!
