THURSDAY COMMENTARY – THE ARGOS ARE IN TOWN

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 FM & Rock 98.5 FM)

BE SURE YOU TAKE TIME TO ENJOY WHAT’S HAPPENING.

THE PRO FOOTBALL SEASON IS SHORT – THE SHORTEST OF EM ALL – AND IT COMES AT YOU LIKE A NON-STOP LOCOMOTIVE.

FOR INSTANCE, WEEK 2 IN THE NFL KICKS OFF THURSDAY NIGHT WITH A BATTLE OF 0-1 TEAMS: THE NY GIANTS AND WASHINGTON FOOTBALL TEAM FROM FEDEX FIELD IN LANDOVER, MARYLAND.

I’LL BE WATCHING IT CLOSELY, PARTICULARLY SINCE THOSE TWO TEAMS RESIDE IN THE NFC EAST, THE SAME DIVISION AS MY BELOVED DALLAS COWBOYS. THE ‘BOYS VISIT THE L.A. CHARGERS ON SUNDAY.

BUT EVERYBODY’S GOING TO BE WATCHING, JUST LIKE EVERYBODY WAS WATCHING MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL.

IT FEELS LIKE WE WERE STILL DISSECTING WEEK 1 WHEN I REALIZED WE HAD TO START THINKING ABOUT WEEK 2.

AND THAT’S JUST AS A FAN.

IMAGINE BEING A COACH IN THE CFL RIGHT NOW; PARTICULARLY SASKATCHEWAN’S CRAIG DICKENSON.

A CFL SEASON IS GENERALLY A SPRINT, NOT A MARATHON, AND WITH THIS YEAR SHORTENED TO 14 GAMES, THINGS MUST BE MOVING AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT FOR THE REIGNING WEST DIVISION COACH OF THE YEAR.

DO THEY REALLY KNOW IF CODY FAJARDO’S GOING TO BE HEALTHY ENOUGH TO PLAY COME FRIDAY WHEN THE TORONTO ARGONAUTS COME TO TOWN? IF THEY KNOW, THEY AREN’T SAYING. THEY DON’T SLOW THE SCHEDULE DOWN FOR YOU. THE DAYS AND GAMES KEEP COMING. FAST.

THE ARGOS ARE ALREADY IN TOWN AND I SAW SOME OF THEM LAST NIGHT. THEY LOOK CONFIDENT, AND THEY LOOK REFRESHED.

CAN THE SAME BE SAID FOR THE RIDERS? THEY WERE ROLLING UP UNTIL RECENTLY, RIDING A LONG HOME GAME WIN STREAK AND SITTING ATOP THE LEAGUE.

MY HOW THINGS CAN CHANGE IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE. THAT’S WHY I SAID TO LOOK AROUND AND ENJOY WHAT’S HAPPENING.

THINGS MOVE FAST IN PRO FOOTBALL AND BEFORE YOU KNOW IT, IT’S GONE.

ITS CRAZY THE WAY THIS YEARS CHEDULE IS SET UP TO THINK THAT WE EILL MISS MOST OF ANY PLAYOFF RACE THE BOYS GET INTO. WON’T SEE THE GSMES THAT MATTER LIVE… IT HAD BEEN NICE FOR THE WEATHER, BUT THATS PROBABLY ABOUT IT. HAPPY TO SEE SOME FIREWORKS BACK FOR LABOUR DAY. MORE THE MERRIER.

I GUESS I WAS WRONG TO ASSUME PAXTON LYNCH WOULD BE BACK ON THE ROSTER AS A POTENTIAL SCRATCH IN CASE CODY COULDNT GO… THEY MUST BE PRETTY CONFIDENT THAT HE IS GOOD TO GO. DONT WANT TO MESS AROUND WITH THAT HEAD STUFF.
