Who are the Dallas Stars?

With everyone talking about the high-flying Dallas Cowboys, it can be easy to forget about another major sports team just down the street.

Through 14 games, the Dallas Stars are currently fifth in the Central Division with a record of 6-6-2. That is pretty much the definition of middle of the pack.

On Wednesday’s blizzard edition of the Rod Pedersen Show, Brien Rea, a Dallas Stars broadcaster stopped by to talk about the start of the Stars season.

“There’s always four or five teams hot out of the gate, and four or five teams slow out of the gate,” said Rea. “That leaves you with 20 other teams sitting in the middle. The Dallas Stars are middle of the pack.”

So far this season, the Stars have been very inconsistent in their play, with some moments of greatness, but others that make you scratch your head.

“I’m still cautiously optimistic because we haven’t seen the pitfalls constantly yet but also haven’t seen the potential happen consistently,” said Rea. “We’ve seen bits and pieces of it but they have left us wanting more.”

For Stars fans however, last night’s 4-2 over the Detroit Red Wings is hopefully a sign of good things to come for the team.

“Last night was a huge win,” said Rea. “That’s only the second time this year they have won consecutive games and for a team that’s kind of in the middle of the pack, they are searching for some consistency. And I think the last two games there are some telltale signs that there are building blocks towards consistency.”

Moving forward, the Stars have a chance to move up in the Central Division, as many teams are playing far better and far worse than people thought coming into the year.

“There is still so much time for Vegas to get it together, Anaheim to regress back to where people thought they were going to be, and for certain teams to improve their standings,” said Rea.

“There is always a surprise every NHL season.”

The Stars travel to Minnesota for a clash with the Wild on Thursday, in what should be a very tough team to beat, but it’s the NHL. Anything can happen.

“There’s a lot of plot twists still left for these teams,” said Rea.
