THURSDAY COMMENTARY – THE GOOD, THE GREAT & THE UGLY
(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 & Rock 98.5 FM)
IT’S TIME FOR ANOTHER EDITION OF THE GOOD, THE GREAT, AND THE UGLY … BECAUSE THERE’S ACTUALLY SO MUCH GOING ON!
FIRST THE GOO – KUDOS TO A PAIR OF SJHL HEAD COACHES – AND REAL GOOD GUYS – FOR REACHING MILESTONES THIS WEEK. THE BATTLEFORDS BRAYDEN KLIMOSKO NOTCHED HIS 100TH CAREER VICTORY WITH A BIG WIN OVER ESTEVAN ON TUESDAY AND BRUINS COACH JASON TATARNIC PICKED UP HIS 500TH JUNIOR A VICTORY THE VERY NEXT NIGHT!
GREAT LEAGUE, GREAT COACHES, GREAT PEOPLE.
NEXT, THE GREAT – AND THAT’S THE 2022 VITERRA SCOTTIES TOURNAMENT OF HEARTS WHICH IS GOING ON IN ASSINIBOIA THIS WEEK, OPENING WEDNESDAY NIGHT IN A CURLING BUBBLE.
IN FACT IN DRAW 1, THE WINNERS WERE BRETT BARBER, MICHELLE ENGLOT, SHERRY ANDERSON AND JESSICA MITCHELL.
IF YOU SAW ANY PICS OR HIGHLIGHT VIDEOS, THE STANDS ARE GENERALLY EMPTY BUT VIEWERS CAN WATCH FROM THE WAITING ROOM. IT’S A SHAME THE CURLERS CAN’T INTERACT WITH THE FANS BECAUSE THAT’S WHAT MAKES THE SPORT SO GREAT, BUT THIS IS THE BEST WAY THEY COULD FIGURE OUT.
THE SHOW MUST GO ON.
AND FINALLY, THE UGLY: TAKE A BOW EDMONTON OILERS.
THIS GREASE FIRE OF A TEAM REALLY SEEMED TO GO UP IN FLAMES FAST, ALTHOUGH THIS RECENT STRETCH OF 11 LOSSES IN 13 GAMES HAS BEEN LONG AND TORTOROUS.
A 4-2 LOSS IN TORONTO LAST NIGHT WAS THE OILERS’ FIFTH STRAIGHT DEFEAT AND THE FINGER-POINTING IN THE CITY OF CHAMPIONS REALLY SEEMS TO BE AT AN ALL-TIME HIGH.
BUT THE FACT IS THEY’RE STILL IN A PLAYOFF SPOT AND ARE ONLY TWO POINTS BEHIND THE CALGARY FLAMES WHOM MANY ARE ANNOINTING AS ONE OF THE TOP TEAMS IN THE NHL’S WEST CONFERENCE.
AS MY BUDDY WILLIE JEFFERSON WOULD SAY, “HOW THAT?”
I’M A BIG FAN OF STAYING THE COURSE AND BELIEVING IN EACH OTHER.
SHOOT, HERE IN MIAMI THE DOLPHINS LOST 7 GAMES IN A ROW BUT NEVER FIRED ANYBODY, STAYED THE COURSE, AND THEN RATTLED OFF 7 WINS IN A ROW.
BUT IN EDMONTON, THEY’RE NOT AS PATIENT.
THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY
