TUESDAY RUNDOWN: STAMPEDERS TAKEOVER
We were back at Calgary’s Grey Eagle Resort & Casino on Tuesday for Episode #676 of The RP Show. Here’s the rundown:
- RP and Moose Dupont were live from the Event Centre with these Quick Six show topics: 1) Monday’s NHL action recap and the Montreal Canadiens hire Kent Hughes as GM, 2) A Panthers/Flames preview, 3) The LA Rams smoked the Arizona Cardinals 34-11 in a Monday Night Football NFC Wildcard Game, 4) CFL notes, 5) The Raptors lose it late in Miami, and 6) NFL Division Playoff Game preview and Deal or No Deal with Bet Regal odds.
- Canadian Football Hall of Famer and Calgary Stampeders great Nik Lewis joined the show to talk all things gridiron. He favours the firing of head coach Mike McCarthy by his beloved Dallas Cowboys. Regarding CFL news, Nik applauded the hiring of John Bowman as assistant coach by the BC Lions and predicts the Calgary Stampeders will finish atop the CFL West in 2022. He also feels the return of Chris Jones to Edmonton as GM/Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator is good for the CFL.
- Newly-signed Stampeders offensive tackle Derek Dennis joined the show to discuss his return to Calgary. He didn’t really want to get into his contract squabble with the Edmonton Elks in 2021, saying he’s already on record as saying the two sides just couldn’t see eye-to-eye. Given his stops in the XFL with New York and the CFL with Saskatchewan, Derek said if he had it all to do over again, he never would’ve left Calgary. He said this is where his heart is. Dennis answered several questions from viewers and said the quality of play and pay between the XFL and CFL are pretty much a wash.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who has the better playoffs – NFL or NHL? At press time, the NHL was leading by a large margin.
- Monday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was Theoren Fleury. Tuesday’s was Derek Dennis.
- See you Wednesday at 12 pm ET from Grey Eagle on Game+ TV, YouTube Live and RodPedersen.com/ListenLive!
