TUESDAY RUNDOWN: LOUBARDIAS, RICHARDS & MORE!

We were back at Calgary’s Entertainment Destination, Grey Eagle Resort & Casino, on Tuesday for Episode #682 of The RP Show! Read on for the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont got it going from the Event Centre with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Monday’s NHL games including the Flames walloping St. Louis 7-1, plus Canada’s Mens Olympic hockey team being unveiled, 2) The Edmonton Elks hire Victor Cui as President and the Vancouver Canucks hire Emily Castonguay as Assistant GM, 3) Michael Reilly announces his retirement, 4) Will the NFL change its OT rules? Teams which win the coin toss are 88-65-10 all-time, 5) The AFC championship game has Kansas City favoured by 7-points over Cincinnati, 6) The NFC championship game as the LA Rams favoured by 3.5-points over San Francisco.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Does Michael Reilly belong in the Canadian Football Hall of Fame? At press time, over 70% of respondents said yes. RP said upon review, he’s not so sure.
  • Sports talk icon Mike Richards of Sauga 960 Radio in Mississauga joined the show to regale the viewers of stories of his days in Calgary and the famed Roughriders/Stampeders rivalry. Richards launchd into a scathing assessment of the current sports talk landscape in Canada and applauded the RP Show for knowing what they’re doing, building an audience, and “building a car on your own and driving the car.” Mike wasn’t so interested in discussing the Canadian Mens hockey team roster, but gushed over the NFL Playoffs.
  • Calgary broadcasting icon Peter Loubardias – the longtime colour commentator of the Flames – joined the crew at Grey Eagle for the bulk of Hour 2 for Great Western Original 16 Beer and told many stories, including his broadcasting the 1988 Notre Dame Hounds run to the Centennial Cup title, saying it was his best time in broadcasting. Lou then answered a ton of viewer questions including the state of the Flames, and what they may need for a Cup run. (Peter figures they could be in the market for a left-handed forward to compliment their forward lines). The guys also spent some time on the WHL and Pete figures despite all the postponements, they’ll get the full 68-game season in plus playoffs.
  • Grey Eagle Director of Entertainment Sheldon Lachambre joined the show to discuss the casino’s spring schedule of entertainment, including Jeff Foxworthy. Sheldon, a Wynyard, SK product, discussed the history of the 14-year old venue and said massive expansion is in the works.
  • The birthday boy, Moose Dupont, joined the show for the Overtime segment and Taco Time Viewer Takeover and the guys previewed Tuesday night’s games and had more on the Michael Reilly-for-the-Hall of Fame discussion.
  • Tuesday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was Pete Loubardias. Monday’s winner was Mike Abou-Mechrek.
  • See you at 12 pm ET on Wednesday from Grey Eagle on Game+ TV, YouTube Live and RodPedersen.com/ListenLive.
