WEDNESDAY RUNDOWN: RIDERS, KRAKEN, BENGALS & MORE!

It was a hump day Episode #688 of The RP Show – Daytime Sports Talk – on Wednesday! Read on for the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont kicked it off with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) NHL Tuesday games and the trouble with the Jets, 2) Rod’s NHL Top 5 are Florida, Colorado, Carolina, Tampa Bay and Toronto, 3) Our NHL Bottom 5 are Buffalo, New Jersey, Seattle, Arizona and Montreal, 4) Brian Flores’ lawsuit against the NFL and three teams for racial discrimination, 5) Ed Gainey’s days as a Roughrider are done and so too, apparently, are Jon Ryan’s, and 6) Day 6 at the Scotties.
  • News broke Wednesday morning that Washington’s NFL team will be called the “Commanders”. RP said he’s fully on-board with the name and loves the military tie-in. Moose wasn’t convinced initially, but said Rod sold him. The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Do you like the name Commanders? At press time, results were around 50/50.
  • Regarding the Riders not offering contracts to some big name veterans, Rod said we haven’t even hit free agency yet and this regime won’t be judged until after the 2022 Grey Cup in Regina.
  • Seattle Kraken radio host Mike Benton joined the show and said the excitement has cooled for the expansion Kraken since they’re in last place in the Pacific Division but said the crowds are still great and they’ve had several high points including sweeping the two-game season series against Florida. Mike also said Seattle’s very excited to watch Kraken star Jordan Eberle in the All Star Game in Las Vegas.
  • In Hour 2 for Great Western Original 16 Beer, Rod and Moose debated more on CFL free agency, the potential for a Canadian Arena Football League to play in the spring, and much more.
  • Friend of the show Mo Egger of ESPN 1530 Cincinnati joined the program to discuss the Super Bowl LVI match-up. He doesn’t agree with Rod’s billing of the Super Bowl as David vs Goliath, saying the Rams aren’t an NFL dynasty. Mo said the Bengals are going to LA early to get acclimatized to the weather. Obviously he thinks the Bengals can win and even though they’re playing with “house money”, Mo said it still hurts to lose even if it’s with house money. He also said Bengals star QB Joe Burrow ruffled feathers when he said he spurned the University of Cincinnati because he couldn’t win there, but Bengals fans have forgiven him. Egger promised to drop by the RP Show set in Los Angeles for our Super Bowl coverage.
  • Tuesday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was Hustler Paterson. Wednesday’s was Mo Egger.
