PATS FALL 5-4 IN OT AT HITMEN

Calgary, Alta. — Despite the Regina Pats storming back from a 3-1 deficit in the third period on Sunday afternoon, the Calgary Hitmen were able to tie the game in the final minute and then win in overtime 5-4.

The Pats have now lost three games in a row by a single goal, while their overall losing streak has reached five games (0-4-1).

The fight Regina showed in the third period should nonetheless be applauded. They fired 31 shots on goal in the first 40 minutes, but couldn’t beat Brayden Peters and found themselves down 2-0 entering the final frame.

Early in the third, Connor Bedard scored a surefire Goal of the Year Candidate to get the Pats to within one.

Blake Allan restored the Hitmen’s two-goal advantage just 10 seconds later, but Regina got a response from Ryker Evans to make it 3-2, then a game-tying-goal from Bedard on the power play, followed by Evans’ second of the game on a blast from the point to make it 4-3 for the Pats.

Grayden Siepmann would tie the game with 12 seconds to go on a power play before Hitmen forward Sean Tschigerl played overtime hero just 32 seconds in on a breakaway.

The Pats out-shot the Hitmen 50-31 in the contest.
