TUESDAY RUNDOWN: LEAFS, FLAMES & RED WINGS GREAT JAMIE MACOUN AND MORE!
It’s not often you get a two-time Stanley Cup champion on the show but that’s what Tuesday offered on Episode #736 of The RP Show – Daytime Sports & Entertainment Talk! Here’s the rundown:
- RP and co-host Lee Genier (award-winning sports exec) got things rolling at the Grey Eagle Event Centre covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The Blue Jays blank the Yankees 3-0, 2) Monday NHL leftovers, 3) NHL notes including Malkin’s suspension, Doughty’s out for the year and should Carey Price play this year?, 4) Raptors/76ers first round NBA playoff preview, 5) CFL CBA talks and the naturalized Canadian rule, and 6) Do you miss the NFL? (The guys said they do).
- Vegas Golden Knights TV colour analyst Shane Hnidy joined the show from Vancouver prior to Tuesday’s game against the Canucks. “Hnides” and Rod go back to the P.A. Raider days and they rehashed some stories and Shane shared his inspirational road to the NHL where he won a Stanley Cup with the Boston Bruins in 2011. Regarding the Golden Knights disappointing year, Hnidy feels it all boils down to injuries to star players. Regarding the play of Vegas newcomer Jack Eichel, Shane said he’s a better play than he thought he was!
- The Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who will win this first round NBA series – the Raptors or 76ers? At press time, over 70% of respondents picked Toronto,.
- In Hour 2 we had the honour of being joined by NHL great Jamie Macoun. The 2-time Stanley Cup champion (Calgary 1989, Detroit 1998) stayed for 40 minutes and covered it all from his playing career including being a part of the biggest blockbuster trade in NHL history. It was the 1992 swap between the Leafs and Flames which landed Macoun and Doug Gilmour in Toronto. Macoun also told the hilarious story of the town Macoun, SK which was named after his relative, and the fact we’ve been pronouncing the town’s name wrong for 100 years!
- Next up we were joined by Winnipeg ICE star Carson Lambos who discussed his team clinching the Scotty Munro Trophy as regular season champions, and playoff prep. Regarding this week’s two home games against Connor Bedard and the Regina Pats, Lambos said they’re not focused on Bedard at all. Carson also revealed the secrets to success of the ICE and head coach James Patrick.
- Monday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was Lee Genier. Tuesday’s was Jamie Macoun.
- See you at 12 pm ET on Wednesday on Game+ TV, YouTube Live and RodPedersen.com/ListenLive!
Hey RP. You won’t get much traction in Wpg with Jamie Macoun. He is the Calgary defenseman who broke Dale Hawerchuk’s ribs during the 1985 playoffs. 37 years, and no one has forgotten that.
